I got this chalice from a reefer friend. It started receding in his tank (notice the white skeleton). He is not sure why. I am going to try to see if it recovers in my tank. I will document progress on this thread. If anyone has any suggestion or prior experience on what can cause chalices to recede please share.
Day 1 (02/26/15) : Did a 10 min dip in Bayer (15 ml in 1 cup of tank water). Washed 3x before placing chalice into my DT:

I got it about a month ago. It's looking much better and feeding well.

The bgm looks good and happy. Keep your phosphates and nitrates low and you could be good. These corals can go in super super low light if you thinks it's an light acclimation problem. I had one I had to keep under a rock overhang or it would start bleaching.
I lost quite a few colonies because of my phosphates and nitrates though. They would recede and look real thin similar to both pictures.

I think we have figured out what may have been the problem. The original owners tank alk was low. Around 7 or less. Let's see if it recovers in my tank. I keep mine between 9 and 10. Enginerd. What do you keep your alk at. Rscp mixes at 12 so I think I need to get to 12 before I can switch to rscp. I'm using IO now. What do you think? Btw. Great recovery on that alien eye!

I am at 10ish alk now. I'm back to reef crystals though.
