Hey Guys. I'm in the process of trying to re-organize my equipment for my tank and I was curious to see what everyone else does with the rat nest of cables and wires we accumulate in this hobby. I used to have everything under my tank but a non-reefer friend that was sitting for me got freaked out when I asked him to unplug something. Since then, I relocated everything outside and screw all of my modules and what not to a piece of MDF board. Now I'm starting to not like seeing the mess and hearing the family amazement at the amount of stuff I use to keep everything stable. I have already bought myself an ikea mini bookcase with wheels so that I can still move it around.

If everyone doesn't mind, I would like to see how everyone organized their rat nest.

I don't see any way to improve your setup, my equipment is mounted to the inside walls of my stand and my wires are bundled like yours but out in the open since I can't just thread them through the backside of the stand to hide them. If there is a better way, I'd love to see it too.

Just a suggestion for you: instead of cutting rectangles in the MDF, why not cut circles and use grommets (something like this: http://tinyurl.com/nqe6pw8) to help conceal more of the wires?

I cut all my power cords to length. And spliced together some of the cords for the lights to one cord. More than 80 feet of wasted wire eliminated.

Interesting. I always get a little leery about cutting cords to my expensive equipment. My Sicce, I think has like 6 ft + of cord but because its the main component to my system, I would rather bundle the cords up. Still worth checking out on my less than expensive cables.

I took my time and soldered all the cut ends. I made the first mistake of cutting cords in the middle and splicing back together. Now I just cut the ends off and put new male plugs on. Hard to go wrong.

Awesome idea John. Once I get all my new outlets run to my fish room I think I'm going to chop chop as well.
