I know everyone has that favorite fish, mine is my Bluespot Jawfish at work that I see every day from 5:15am to 5pm five days a week, except this morning. I came in like always turn on my light, turn on my computer, look at my jawfish hanging half way out of one of his two holes, except this morning he was not there? I went and made coffee, came back and nothing. I took off the glass tops, cleaned the glass looked around, checked the overflow, and nothing. Fed the other fish and still no jawfish. I had to go look at a job, came back around lunch and still the same.
Around one I decided to check the overflow one more time, so I picked up the glass top, started to look down and here he comes flying at least six inches out of the overflow diving straight down into the tank, around the rocks and landing on the GSP with that look “Did Ya Miss Me?”
It is amazing how attached we get with our stupid fish, I still have no idea how he slipped between the overflow and the glass tops but he is back in his hole tonight.

Awesome story Alton. I'm glad he was just playing hide and seek.

I have similar story with my Flame Angel. I got a pair in my tank and added a third one, a small female. Two days later she was gone. I looked everywhere, even the overflow box and all around the tank. No angel. I though that one of my carpets got her for sure.
A few days later I saw her in the overflow box. How she jumped over to the box I have no idea. She cannot go through the screen. Anyway, I got her back to the main tank and she have been there happy for the last 6 months. I got a Trio, one male and two females harem in my tank. One then the other would spawn almost every night. :)

Minh does your male get aggressive to the other fish in the tank right before mating? My male is docile towards my smaller regal until mating with the female starts. After hearing your story I might pickup a baby Flame again so I will then have two females.

I would say that my flame angels are agressive. The hold their own. They peck at each other at times and at other fish but dont relentlessly chase each other or oen of the other angels. There was never any wound or torn fin.
The first day that I added the small third female, the other two chase her around a bit but no significant agression after a day or two. I do have a 320 gal tank. The angels in that tank are Watanabe pair, Regal angel (about the same size as the male Flame angel) and the trio Flame angels.
I also have a 65 gal reef tank where I have another Flame angels pair. In that tank when I added a Flame Back angel, the flame agel harrased him until I have to remove him.
