Hi everyone,
I was looking around my tank and I noticed some red structures growing at the base of my torch coral. I was wondering if this could be Dragons Breath macro algae, something completely different, or is this just how torch corals grow? I tried Reef Central and Reef2Reef but everyone on there seems to just pass it by. Here's a link to a video, be sure to watch it in HD!

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I'm not sure what type but it definitely looks like a macro algea of some variety. Very cool.

Is it hard or soft? I've seen something similar in a previous tank. I thought it was some type of coralline algae but that's just a guess.

Thanks for the replies!
It is hard.
The reason I ask was because I just bought this frag and I didn't want anything to spread if it's bad.
Did/has it grow(n) at all while it was/is in your tanks? I was hoping it was Dragons Breath because I love the way it looks.

Had those on a piece of rock I bought before. Can't identify but seemed harmless

I was looking at it again with the moonlights on and I noticed a tiny bit of it is fluorescent. Why just a tiny bit? I'm so confused!

It's hard to tell from the video. John Maloney from ReefCleaners.org may be to ID it if it's a macroalgae. He's a sponsor on RC.
