View Full Version : Deja Vu all over again... Old thread, same old MAAST controversy...

Someone sent me a link to an old thread.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" George Sanayana

If you have a few minutes, you will see MANY parallels to MAAST today.

You're right, there are a lot of parallels. Mostly, people thinking there's some behind the scenes conspiracy and mass hysteria.

Seriously, what else are you referring to that you see as a parallel?

Also:

"I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past"
--Thomas Jefferson

"Don't believe everything you read on the internet"
--Abraham Lincoln

Ok, the last one was added just for fun. :)

So will you admit that there is no secrecy behind closed doors?

it should be open, so everyone can see all the finger pointing that happens and the same bickering that happens on front pages. I'm speaking from my experience on bod when I served, but I'm sure it's still happening.

So do away with the front office where sensitive information may be discussed concerning individuals, sponsors, and so forth. Is that what you are advocating? Do away with that one area where the bod can vent their frustrations over the nitnoid issues and debate the various aspects of running the organization? Make that public? I think, even you, can agree that there are larger issues involved. How many bod meetings have you attended since they publicly made it open? I dare say you haven't made a single one.

And sometimes I wonder if you know the difference. I stand by my question above, and if I remember correctly, on those rare occasions where you participated on the bod, you never advocated making the forum open.

Bottom line? It's not important, nor is it required. As John said, you've an interest, run for the bod. That really goes for all of the membership. You charter to see certain areas, you mod up to see other areas, you bod up to see other areas. Although I would hope that your interest is more than general curiosity.

I changed my mind after seeing the same issues the last few years, which is why bill started this thread

Understandable.

I still maintain that opening visibility of those areas is both insignificant and unwarranted. I would place more weight to your request if you were indeed sitting in on the open bod meetings.

Tony, a few years ago Chris served on the bod. It's not a widely known fact, but it is nonetheless public information. I suggested that he be asked as he has (had) first hand knowledge concerning the processes and practices of the BoD.

If I read that old thread correctly and the rules haven't been changed, then there is no need to make the forums public as anyone who shows up to a regular monthly meeting should be able to request temporary access to them in order to audit and review.

I would love to volunteer in a more official way but my career calls for long hours with very little time off.

What I have seen consistently over the last few threads is people putting too much emphasis on my background to support their position and others putting too much emphasis on how they "think" or "want" to interpret the rules in place. Contract interpretation is one of the few areas of law where everything is black and white with no shades of gray in between. Enforce the rules in that manner and if we don't like it we can call for a vote to change them.

I can't speak for the "forced out" portion. I am not aware of what happened. I can say this. Our governing body needs a level of impartiality to effectively view all arguments brought before us. That should be SOP.

Oh, no, people know. You've mentioned it a time or two.

For the record, folks who are employed by a sponsor can't serve on the bod. I believe that was published in the open bod meeting notes, the vote and everything else.

I actually remembering your last post to the bod that explained why you decided not to run for reelection, and it pertained more to your added workload in school because you got into A&M (congratulations btw) and a few other things. Nothing about being forced out, though.

Hmm

Either way, it's really not a concern to those that are here for the hobby. Those who want to play a constructive part of the organization are welcome to run or apply for a mod position.

I did no such thing, Chris.

I asked tony to ask you about the inner workings of the bod, and he said "why, he's not bod". I merely pointed out that you were indeed on the board a few years ago.

Then you stated that you were forced out, to which I scratched my rapidly balding head, as I don't remember it quite that way at all.

So... I elaborated for the group. Trust me, there are a lot of ex bod members on here, we don't get a "been there, done that" sticker on our membership card.

As far as the actual conversations in which you were told that, can't comment as I didn't bother to read everything.

I do, actually, pay attention when you speak. Half to 75% time you make a lot of sense, but there are those times that you don't. Telling us you were forced off is one of those times. It doesn't ring true.

Drama drama drama... Worse than the soaps around here.

Lest we forget, this is just a frickin fish club.

I try not to say anything anymore, just tired of the drama. Our BOD members volunteer and are voted in by us. There is no other requirements, other than a desire to serve the club and help. These are just normal people with lives if their own, donating their time and energy in trying to help and support the club and hobby. They are not attorneys, litigators, or contract makers and are just trying to step up and do the best they can. That is why they volunteer. If anyone thinks they can do better or even help contribute, please feel free to run for BOD. At this point, MAAST can use the positive support to counteract all the negative energy being thrown around.

Sorry to rant, just frustrated... I am now back off my soap box. Happy reefing!

My referral to ADD was just an observation how just about every thread out here gets off subject anymore and you always got somethin' to say and I respect that but I really don't care for it because I would rather see intelligent discussion which I am sure your are probably capable of when you want to. I don't get on much anymore and I really don't post much because it really isn't worth it to see smartt A#s comments all the time. Yeah and btw I have family members with ADD do you ? I'm just saying it's a freakin' fish club so please don't get on here and try to be 'cute' by belittling other members all the time, that's not the way you would like to be treated is it. And no I am not sensitive to what you say to me I could care less I raised my kids and you can't come close to them at all. I joined MAAST cause I thought it was a good group of people with a common interest and at the time it seemed to me everybody pretty much respected everybody and got along. If you guys don't like the BOD decisions then run for office next time and be a leader of MAAST. For now we have our BOD and weather you like their decisions or not that's the way it is. Just my .02

This is the web and its filled with stuff that can stress anyone out.... We are free to say what we want and when we want(within the guidelines ;) )

I dont think i belittle ppl but i do question authority a lot of the time.... And i understand those are the ppl that sometimes feel like i am a problem... For what questioning how we are being policed, last time i checked this was a free country.. But i dont argue when i have made a mistake, ask jack or ramsey as they have PMed me in the past and i apologized...

I offer plenty of other advice and other stuff that gets over looked.... But i'm not looking for recognition for it.... Just questioning where are all these ppl that have problems with us on this site, that only pop up in threads like this....

Sound has been improved.. Most games are now read in DTS by the receiver in my theater...

True true, the one thing that irks me about titan fall is the lack of a nice single player, but then again I do understand where the developers came from. And that's cool, I held the controllers for both the other day and played for a few minutes at best buy, I couldn't get over how awkward the ps3 controller felt on the thumb sticks.. it felt like sweat kept pooling in there and I'm not one with sweaty palms and I cleaned it off a few times but kept loosing my grip on it.

Titanfall rocks, basically a COD with mechs and Crackdown like jumping around. No true campaign, but I always jump right into MP anyways so that doesn't matter to me.

XO needs more games. I like it, but have not even used the Kinect since they don't sell an extension cord yet...even after 6 months... Ryse was awesome, but re-playability just isn't there so it's kind of a one and done. MP was a joke on there.

My PS3 is also a paperweight, the only game I ever bought and played on it was God of War.
