Good evening all,
I am looking at taking my nano and switching it over to freshwater. Unfortunately I just do not have the time anymore to keep up with it, that and I have had just bad luck with fish in a smaller tank. I still have the water, sand and to large pieces of live rock in it and wanted to know what i would need to do to switch it over to a fresh water tank for my daughter (she is five). Any advice or help is much appreciated. Thanks.

take it all out and get fresh water stuff. you can buy pre made decorations and gravel, no reason to keep sand and rock. go back to simple filtration like sponge, carbon, and som kind of bio filtration like ceramic rings

Thanks, What about the coraline that was on the back plastic that is now white? Do i just clean as much off as i can without damaging the plastic or don't worry about it.

use plastic blade, or if you me very careful use a industrial spray bottle and muriatic acid and spray it. do it outside as fumes will be released don't worry if you do it small areas at a time you will not harm plastic

Vinegar will work on it too.

When I switched from salt to fresh I vinegar scrubbed the tank and rinsed and reused the sand. A lot of freshwater fish enjoy a sand bed over gravel. You could even reuse your rock if you kill everything on it first. At that point you only need to buy the classic freshwater filtration stuff and not worry about new decor.

Well, I took everything out soaked it in vinegar, then pressure washed the rock and rinsed it off. Went ahead and got rid of the sand and got some some new substrate to put in. Getting ready to fill it back up and see how it goes. Thanks everyone for all the info.
