View Full Version : Hydra 52 Noise?

Hello,

I'm in the planning process for a reef build. Some of the Hydra 52 reviews complain of a loud humming noise. Do you have a hydra 52? What are your thoughts? Is this a fluke? Has AI fixed this issue?

When I first got my hydras, the fans were SUPER load and obnoxious, but it was odd because it was an upgrade kit, so the fans were the same ones that were in my sols and those were silent. It was like that for a few weeks until finally AI released a software patch that made it so the fans wouldn't run as hard or as often and since then they've been silent. If there is an issue, I have no doubt AI will fix it, even if its hardware.

Like any new electronic product, they will have some with bugs...
Before you put your hydras over your tank, make sure you update them.

When the vegas came out, i had a issue. Ai tried 2 or 3 times, sending me parts, non of which helped... They finally sent me a whole new unit free of charge and i sent the defective one back.


Also, get your unit registered online.

mine is quiet. I have to put my hand above it to see if the fan is on.

I have 3 and no noise from LEDs or fan.

I've got three regular hydras, not the 52's and mine are quiet. Not sure if the fans are any different though.

Great support but still some issues with the director.

I have the 52's and the fans do make noise. But it's not really heard over the noise of all the other things running on the tank.

I read and watched a couple reviews involving noise in the red channel. It sounds like they were isolated incidents. Perhaps I'll go with the 52s then...

I honestly changed a lot of things right around the same time so I can't for sure say what is making my reef very happy.

I got the 52's and skimmer and changed salt all at the same time. Reef looks very happy.

I got my Hydra a few months ago and zero complaints, not sure how much difference the fans are on the 52s but AI support is the best
