How do you know when it's time to change the filters on your RODI? And what's the consequences of using water from a RODI that needs new filters? Thanks guys

what filters are you worried about, i change mine every 6 months(sediment, carbon blocks) or when i see the sediment is dirty, ro membrane gets changed out when i see tds go up coming out of it. one way to tell is when pressure drops, after last carbon block before membrane but you would need to monitor pressure all the time to see the difference. so by using dirty filters you will get more junk to your ro membrane and shorten the life of a $30-50 membrane, also if your carbon blocks are exhausted then your not taking out chlorine in water, and last your just wasting water when essentially your putting tap water in your tank.

Oh ok, I've had mine for a year but I only use it for top off and water changes so I don't know what the life expectancy is when just used for that purpose, what's tds? My calcium and mg have been higher than normal, would the need for new membranes/filters cause this?

I change mine yearly or when TDS is 3 on my meter. See about getting a TDS meter they are cheap and sometimes free if you get filter from sponser air water ice. After filter change TDS reads 0. And don't forget to flush your menbrane reguarly that will clean it out and make it last longer.

I change mine every 6 months (on the DI Resin, Sediment, and Carbon) I change my membrane once a year. Mostly I go on basis of my TDS meter.

Louis at elegant got me a pimp hand held one...

But buckeye hydro or brs have them online.....

On mr RO unit i have a dual monitoring before entering my unit and after di resin... Then i added a single to monitor after my membrane(before di)......

Worth every penny...

Inline will work..... And IMO is a must have on a RO unit...

But handheld are cool, just because... Lol im testing water at work and any bottled water i come across..

I run inline monitoring coming into the system, out of the ro membrane, and out of the di canister. When I get a TDS of 1 coming from my di resin it's time to change all the filter blocks and the di resin. RO membranes should last for several years if cared for. IMHO, inline monitoring is the key to keeping your rodi working well, and your rodi water within acceptable limits. YMMV.
