Did it cycle? What is causing the ammonia? Any idea? Try prime and water changes. Quarantining the fish is not going to help if the ammonia kills them. Read the full descriptions on the meds you are using, to make sure they don't say anything about it causing false testing results.

Also, you need to seed the QT with biological media or cycle it. What I do is run some biobale or ceramic media in my main tank ( for a month) then use that for the QT and replace the media in the main tank. This way, I always have a supply of seeded media for QT.

You can try using Prime to bring the ammonia down but I'm not a big fan of this method. I would recommend picking up some bio spira or fritz bacteria and add it to your tank. This will add bacteria that can colonize and jump start the cycle. Until you're able to do this, large water changes everyday.

Water changes but from your display tank, and then buy a foam filter and place it in your sump so next time you will have a biological filter to use in your QT

Something like this

Louis and Terry both carry these

I have some filter media that was in my main tank running in filter and I have been using newly ro/di water.. Wasn't sure I had to do water change with tank water.. So I guess tank in trying to cycle off.. I'm home now so what amount is recommended to do a water change with display tank water.. Running 20 gallons in qt..

What size tank is your display?

65 with aTotal of 80 gal.. I did a 50 water change on my qt and still showing ammonia. Going to look in and see if it's the meds giving false readings.. My main has no ammonia showing up...

Q: I'm using Cupramine™ and my ammonia test kit is showing ammonia off the scale. What is going on?

A: Ammonia test kits can not distinguish ammonia from the amine based complex present in Cupramine™ and will therefore give a false high reading for ammonia while using Cupramine™. Our Ammonia Alert™ and MultiTest: Free & Total Ammonia™ test kit do not suffer from this problem as they utilize a gas exchange technology that can distinguish ammonia from amines.

To be safe I would do 5 gallon a day water change with your display and use the 5 gallons on your QT. FWIW I do FW bath and Prazi Pro, the only time I use Copper is when Ich is present

You may want to check your salt. I had a box of IO salt that showed off the scale ammonia. I got new salt and it tested good.

What test kits are you using? If your using API I'd double check the results..

If you're using Cupramine that's what it is. Do you have any nitrite?

I also QT in a 20L and after a couple times I started using seeded filters to help. I recently started up my QT again, but overstocked it. I battled ammonia and nitrites, so I started doing 50-75% daily water changes. Its very important to match water temps and salinity. I'm now about 3 weeks into my QT and things have settled down. Get yourself a seachem ammonia alert tag and keep your eye it. You're doing the right thing, so establish a routine that will take a few minutes each day.

I also don't like mixing medications, you never know how they actually react. Run one med, then perform a large water change and run carbon for a few days before you start the next med. Plus maintaining proper copper levels while doing daily water changes can be a pain. I'd recommend Ich X, you actually need to perform daily water changes. After you run Ich X, hopefully your QT has cycled and you can start Prazipro. Good luck.
