So I am needing to replace my refugium light and started thinking that maybe I should replace it with a light that I can also grow coral frags out with. I don't have the means to set up a stand alone frag tank so thought I would utilize the refugium. I need a light that will grow corals and macro algae. Was lookig into a PAR38 led bulb but not sure. What do you think and what do some of you guys/gals use that are attempting this same thing in the refugium?

Other than a par38, I'd recommend the wave point led fixture. Proven success.

I've used the wave points before. Used them on Tony's advice and it did work. Only used it on softies and some LPS with success. I didn't try sps. So no input on that. Grew macro like a beast. I was cutting frequently.

I currently run the 18w 10k model and I grow macro like mad. Been using it for over a year.

What about the marine land LED fixture? Will it grow coral frags?

I've heard some bad things about the light, namely how much it loses it's intensity over time. Like significantly. I would say if you were going to spend that much, your better getting a few nice par38's from rapid that have the cree 3w's in them. Can't go wrong there buddy. Best growth I've ever had on any tank was with my rapid par38 on my 10 gallon. I've had sols, ai nanos, slim lines, halides, and a diy unit.

If you wanted to see a par38, your more then welcome to stop by to my apt. I have both a par38 and 2x sols running in my tanks currently.

Say "no" to marineland!!!

i was running the wavepoint and it was good.....

swapped it out for a ai nano and its better! I'm not even using a controller on it yet, just on/off with my RKE. But everything is growing in there at a faster rate.
