It is with great sadness that I post this message...

It was almost a month ago that we lost our beloved Bruce, we didn't know what it was as all parimeters were good. We had always kept to our routine.. Lots of Greens, Shrimp & Clams.. No Changes Whatsoever..

However, some how some way we contracted this deadly virus Marine Velvet. After plenty of reading and a few water changes thinking things would help, unfortunately nothing worked. We have lost all but a few fish, often 2 at a time and of course at night time.

Things we noticed:

Day 1-5 Resembles Ich, with white spots all over the body, constant scratching on rock

Day 6-9 Fish looks to be getting better, but this time hiding in the rocks or in the back of the tank. Gills moving very fast as if gasping for oxygen. White spots are gone, but a tanish color film all over the body. Decreased activity..

Day 10-12 Almost near death... Fish tries to swim directly in front of a constant flow (ie) mp40 on high.. They stayed here for a couple of more days, eating less & less until their timely death only to happen at night, in the dark.

Each morning for a couple weeks we woke up to 1 or 2 deaths in the tank. There was nothing we could do.. Treatments are available but, but that would consist of copper.. We didn't want to add to the 240 so... We just hoped we would recover, knowing the results. There was no way we could setup a treatment tank, as all of our fish are/were above size and would require a very large tank to hold them, with out stressing any further.

I did treat medically with a medicine that is mixed with their clams, I know works for ICH but at the moment I can not remember for the live of me. Just lots to deal with I guess.

We have thought of tearing down and selling, converting to fresh, but right now its all up in the air. The remaining fish, we don't know if they will survive, the coral which consists of zoas, leathers, gorgonians mushrooms are still okay, not affected. The Rock which is plenty is there too.. Its just a big tank with lots of rock, some coral and very little fish. :( Its hard to think at one point this tank was TOTM, big and beautiful with lots of fish with big personalities and all but gone..

We will see where the next chapter goes... Keep yall posted.. ps.. I still have my 40gal filled with coral and fish in that tank are okay.. (keeping fingers crossed)

We will be doing a 75% water change this weekend in the 240 and a 50% in the Solana... Here's hoping for the best...

RIP- Bruce & Bella, 4 yellow tangs, 1 orange shoulder tang, 2 clown fish, and a few others.. (adult size) We miss yall.

So sorry eve. Your 240 was one of my favorite tanks. It was one of the busiest tanks I ever saw. So much was going on in there.

So sorry to hear Eve.

I'm not informed enough on this subject to help with a cure or remedy. I will be more than happy to help out in any other way I can though.

Oh wow, I'm so sorry. I know that powerless feeling of doing everything you can think of to keep your fish alive and then losing the battle. It's just so awful.

thanks everyone.. its been a tough pill to swallow, walking into my home to an empty tank.. Ross says we will be back up again, soon. I am grateful that he still wants to stay in, but its hard to overcome the loss of a pet that has grown on you that your own personality shows thru them. Fish will come and go, Im sure but none will ever be as close to my children as these.

Sucks... So very sorry... Nothing is worse than that helpless feeling about not being able to do anything. RIP to your fishy friends. :(
