Picked up a ultra blue clam Saturday and won't seem to fully open up all the way. Any suggestions on why?

you have it laying on it's side maybe reposition so it's facing up. also they are high light clams so moving it up in rocks may help, not too much flow

My clams never use to open until I started really checking water quality and dosing cal, alk, mag

It's facing straight up, just the picture looks angled wrong. I've read that on the Internet but scared something will tip him over before placing his foot down. Maybe I'll try positioning him in between some rock work

That's where he is placed now

Mine took a few weeks or so to "acclimate" to it's new environment, hardly cracked a smile.

Give it time. Make sure the flow isn't very turbulent and keep an eye on it. They prefer to be on rock since they are a rock boring clam. If the foot attaches, be very careful not to damage the foot. If attached, it's best to leave it where it is.
