I have this skimmer. Awesome skimmer, pulls out some really good (bad) stuff. The only problems I had were:
1. At first, didn't have a sump, so the water level would change, which was a hassle.
2. Because it is directly in the tank, the tip that you put in the water is prone to clogging up by algae or some other force, also, the sock starts collecting algae and other stuff growing, floating in the tank.

Great skimmer though.

Have this one modified to combat that problem butbi know exactly whatbur talking about bintake is a little longer and the filter pad is of more coarse material
