Apex and digital aquatics are both good for the price...

This is a non ending subject about which is best.

digital aquatics is available locally, but most shops can probably get you a apex.

I think it depends on your goals. I have an Apex and so far, I love it. It controls everything except my light since I have a radion. If you don't like to tinker though, programming may be a bit overwhelming. I haven't tried DA so I can't comment on that one.

Oh yeah, if money's no object, you may want to look at the GHL profilux. They're supposed to be legit.

Da is simple to program, and in my opinion the initial package is more bang for your buck, however their customer service is TERRIBLE and if you run into any hardware issues they leave you out to dry (no pun intended). I can't speak for apex but I heard for DIY stuff, apex has some better hardware.

The "Vertex Cerebra" is supposed to kill all the other controllers.... if it ever comes out.

Man, I've got an RKE, and if that's a distant third... I'd be scared to try the others. :)

Having only that one, is recommend a controller to anyone. It really helps to have everything tied to one system.

I love my RKL's, turns my stuff on and off. If the tank gets to warm it turns my lights off, if it gets too cool, it turns my fans off. The one I bought several years ago cost me $115 and my last $130 from louis. My AC went out several times in the last few years and everytime my RKL turned my lights off saving my tank. Most of the complaints on RKL come from the upgrades, I have never upgraded mine, I see no reason.

Controllers are a definite need no matter which brand you buy or how much you spend

I use a GHL Profilux 3ex...it is a great controller, but not the easiest to program. I've used the others too, none of them are bad at all it's just that some are easier to program and some have more complex features or programmability. Depends what you want to spend and how much stuff you want to program and control.

I used to own 2 old school ReefKeeper2 controllers way back when. I had an issue with one of the Temp probes and tried to get a hold of them to help me troubleshoot. After no responses I figured it out myself. Digital Aquatics customer support is terrible. I am done with them.
