Sailfin Tang & Purple Tang?

Question is? Is it possible to keep a sail fin and purple tang together in same tank? I'm getting my 215 gallon brick tank set up on Sunday and moving my fish into it from my 90. I want a purple tang in near future, but already have a sailfin....:)

It could be possible in a tank that size, I would time it so the purple is ready to get out of QT and into the new tank at the same time, but this all depends on the other tank mates and how aggressive your sailfin is.

I have a yellow, purple, naso, bristle tooth and a chevron tang in my 5' tank....


No QT tank for me either....

Purple tangs are notorious by nature by all means ....I had my black and purple tang together for a year and than all of a sudden purple started to pick on my blk tang one day and blk tang didn't make it .....

Every fish is different the lesson is learnt and I will never add another tang same size as my purple is ...
I hve a xx large naso that purple picked on him the day I added but lost the battle and now they both live together happily !!!!!

I think a lot has to do with feeding..


ofcourse they are going to fight if the food supply is limited...

think if we were in a cell.... And no laws or rules to the little food we get every other day... Eventually I'm going to look at you and want your cut too..... Or vice versa..

I feed 2-3 times daily with offerings of nori 1-2 times a day.....


no bickering or fighting but if I miss a day.... I notice they get upset and start picking at each other....

I plan to cut back on tangs soon to cut there demand plus my naso is getting to big......

I started this feeding regime right before I went on vacation ... Before it was every day ......
