ok, i have heard all kinds of explanations of why bubble tip anemones bubble there tips. i thought we might start a thread to see who has them and if they are bubbling or stringy.
i will start it off with a bit of a puzzle.
two bstreep rbta clones that the clowns host.
one bubbles and one doesnt

this rules out different flow, different light, different water quality, different genetics, and just about any other difference i can think of for my two. any ideas, or is it just one of those unanswerable mysteries?

Mine almost never bubble. I also don't feed them - they only get what comes their way.
Ace, any chance the bubbly one is being fed by the clowns?
Or - I also have clowns - they beat the heck out mine. Any chance that might have something to do with it?

4 RBTA with 1 pair of clowns in a nano 29g with 150w MH, and sometimes they bubble and sometimes they don't. Can't figure it out.

when I force split one...the clones stayed bubble for a month. Now there's no consistency. I don't spot feed but I do feed 4-7 times a day since the clowns are broodstock...so I know they get plenty to eat. Like I said...sometimes they bubble and sometimes they don't.

I used to think with my rosé tips that they bubbled when they were somewhat stressed. Kind of like they weren't trusting enough of their environment to extend out fully.
But now I'm not so sure. I have a bstreep clone that bubbled, and sure enough it's now stretched out enjoying the light.
But I have a Teeb clone that has never done this. It remains as it always has, bubbled.
My clones do vacation in the bstreep clone, but they seem to prefer their Duncan homes. They've never touched teebs clone.
The coloration of both, in my tank, is similar although the bstreep seems to be a bit richer.
Not much of an answer, just my observations.

that is the purpose of this thread allan, just to get some observations from everyone. it is looking more and more like it is a fairly random thing for some of us...

bill, they seem to spend time in both since they are side by side

You know, maybe it's stress? As noted above, when mine split, they bubble much more.
The stringy tentacles would 1) be more similar to other anemones maybe indicating that they are 2) hungry. Like I said, I never target feed mine, and they are almost always stringy.

This is not my opinion but atleast that's what I notice over last two years ...I hve introduced total of 4 btas during last 2 years ....I hve noticed in the beginning they all stay bubbled up tips and after sometimes they r just straight ...
Not that it bothered me or anything I just wanted to add my guess .....

I have 2 mini gbta's. the one the clownfish hosts is little bigger than golfball size, is fed by me or the clown, is out in the open and never bubbles. The other one is small, more like a robin's egg in size, is hanging out underneath a montipora cap, is never spot fed, and is bubbled 24/7. Both, I would say are happy as they have never tried to move on me.

Mike, is that one of mine?
I've had my RTBAs for almost 8 years now. I have a feeling that with me parting with 2-4 a year, that many of the MAAST RBTAs are probably clones of mine.

You know, I just have Ben one of my Teeb Clones. Both of them were straight up bubble in my tank. In his, it's stretched out and stringy.

This morning my tanks temp dropped to 76.1. This was the Nems response.

And one of my rbtas that is also normally "stringy".

I have picked up several btas and they've always gone stringy for me. The mini gbta that I got from Chris was bubbles in his tank and not in mine.

Yes, I'm intentionally aggravating them in an effort to get them moving so I can sell them...

You'd think I glue them in place! Except that during the night they move 1/8". Every night...
I've been blasting them an they just won't move!

Mine never bubbles up...kinda disappointing. When I bought it it was bubbled up....but it's stringy in my tank. It is huge though...
