What do you guys think of having a armoire as a reservoir/storage unit as well keeping you electrical stuff in it? Has anyone done this? Thinking of putting a 10 gallon in there for the ato as well keeping a RKL on the side doors as well putting saltwater related things in there. Suggestions?

I would look at it as any other storage area. Only thing I would worry about is build up of humidity in there. Is it open anywhere on it or fully closed?

I don't have one but if I did I would drill or cut out the back of it. I was just looking on Criaglist to see what options I can come up with as far keeping a water reservoir inside and all the electronics drilled and hooked on the the back or side and the main head display on the front. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/04/09/avu6a3y7.jpg I have the space for it on the side.

Or should I make a custom stand and save all the trouble.

That's up to you man. I don't think it would be bad to have the armoire.

There are two things I would worry about, the humidty factor that John brought up, but I see you are making arrangements about that, but I would also worry about the amount of weight you put in it. You stated you were scanning through CL with that idea. The only one I have seen on CL is a computer armoire, and to be honest, those are not that sturdy. They are sturdy enough for a computer system, but not much more than that, I use to have one of those.

Here is the only picture that I have of it anymore. But as you see, I even took my computer out of it due to it not being sturdy enough. Only thing I kept in there after that was extra mouses, keyboards, blank DVDs and CDs, and my hat collection. Plus the mini stereo that I had on top.

When you put a top off in a 5 gallon bucket and put it into the armoir be sure to put a lid on it. drill a small hole so it doesn't develop a vacum. This will limit the amount of humidity inside the chest. I've got mine on an open bench behind the tank. Shouldn't be any problem doing what you want to do. Might even want to put in some dessicant into the armour to help keep humidity down.

Oh, and what Joe said... make sure it will support the bucket. You may have to reinforce the shelf where the bucket would go.

Thanks guys for the more info and suggestions. I was going to use a Ten gallon tank as a reservoir. What about a Night stand? I could add a 2x4 for extra support.

Most nightstands I have seen are sturdy enough for a 10 Gallon, may not even need the 2x4 for extra reinforcement. You will still need to drill the holes to help vent it though.

Maybe try going to good will? I ALWAYS see chests there when I drop donations off that look quite nice and would hold a decent size top off container.
