You going to need a mesh screen cover, I lost a beautiful Piccasso clown from my shallow cube before i installed the cover. This going to be a great setup.

Fri, 5th Apr 2013, 06:52 PM
yupp the mesh cover is in the works. also got some of these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180941022923&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
so the mesh top will be pretty much floating inside the tank

thx for all the feedback
another update
all i need to do is get my sump drilled (sometime this weekend)
and finish up my plumbing
and let the cycle begin
i had some questions as far as dosing kalk
if someone could help me out
i plan on dosing kalk (later down the line)
through my ATO
i saw plenty vids about the topic and i feel that it is the most cost effective way to pursue dosing
does anyone also dose this way
and what are the pros and cons
im using a aqualifter and some people suggest using the pre filter
is it necessary?
Cammed_02
Fri, 30th Aug 2013, 10:23 PM
I used to dose via my ato container. I got tired of the kalk pricipitate cloging up the pump. I ran it like that for about 6 months and it did just fine as long you dont mind the maintenance. I switched to the TLF kalk reactor and never looked back.
CoryDude
Fri, 30th Aug 2013, 10:24 PM
I never dosed with an ato, but use aqualifters for other applications and yes the pre filter is very helpful in keeping crud out of the feed line. Just make sure to clean the pre filter every month and replace them every 6-12 months.

Here is my plan for dosing kalk that was swiped from another member.
Kalk reactor that is fed by my ATO. Then a secondary lifter pump in the ATO for straight freshwater in case my ph swings to high to top off with kalk. It will be ran through my RKElite.

Oh, and I'm running a peristaltic pump for kalk dosing so I shouldn't have to worry about a lifter pump getting clogged.

Now that's a great idea. If you leave a feed pump in fresh top off water, you don't need to service it very often at all!

Are the bubbles in your display, or in the sump?
slm222
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 07:27 AM
Do you only have one divider between the section of skimmer and refugium section? I think in between each section, to help cut down on bubbles, most sumps/refugium have 3 dividers
itsbobbyz
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 12:57 PM
they are in the sump not entering the display
i do have 3 dividers
its just producing too many bubbles in the first chamber
which are causing them to pop at the surface of the water
and splashing in my sump
worried that the salt creep is gonna be bad
slm222
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 09:21 PM
My mistake, from that picture to me it looked like that 1st transition just had one divider.
1seahorse
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 09:33 PM
are you breaking in a new skimmer? that's always happened when I was breaking one in. needs time to build up a film that keeps the bubbles in longer to diffuse. it takes almost 2 months. that I could remember. sorry if you knew this already or I missed some info. :)
itsbobbyz
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 10:10 PM
all the bubbles are coming from my overflow piping down into the sump
itsbobbyz
Tue, 15th Oct 2013, 10:16 PM
sorry slm222 i read the thing about the baffles wrong
yes i do only have one
im not worried about the bubbles going into the fuge
but the water entering my sump from the display is causing bubbles
and the bubbles pop at the surface of the water and spraying water everywhere

flatworms can be good and bad, how did they get on the glass
usually their trying to eat, survive, and hide like most inverts

And flatworm exit doesn't hit them very hard. Not the brown ones. I've had them on and off over the years. Fresh water dips work to pull them off, but it's only going to clear that piece for a few days if you have a bad case.
Todd told me that he had a very bad outbreak and he just let it ride. Two or three months later they were gone.

Tue, 12th Nov 2013, 06:56 AM
I noticed some in my tank the other day. I saw a group of them on the glass and now they're everywhere. They're not on any coral though and they aren't at plague proportions so I haven't tried doing anything about them. As long as they don't hurt anything, I can live with them.
Awesome tank! Love the footprint.
