But would you recommend it...?

You've had both now. Which is your favorite for color and growth?

Both are good...

was having better results with the sols/t5s though..... But idk if it is because of errors on my part.. Things were looking really good in my tank with the Vega's then I got intensity happy and lowered the lights about 6"...... I burned a bunch of stuff...

I wouldn't run sols by themselves, I wasn't happy with the color.... Vega's can be fine tuned to your liking..

I raised the light back to about 10" and lowered the intensities and acans look happy again, white tips on a few pieces of sps don't seem to be getting any bigger.... So I'm hoping things are in recovery mode..

stuff on my sand bed don't look to happy are they were loving that extra light.... Guess I have to move some stuff around... Lol

My advice....

if you have sols and want to upgrade them and are not looking to spend that much...

Run 2 t5s... One ati true actinic and a purple plus or Fiji...

If you have to cash to blow then upgrade......

i think I would have been happy with 4t5s and the sols....i think that would be a sweet setup. And still cheaper than upgrading..

not that the vega's don't work or are not good... But it's a lot of money to upgrade or to buy vega's... I was completely happy before and I'm still happy now......

I would really like to see someone with more knowledge than me in reefing own a vega... My laziness and unwilling to test and keep on top of stuff I feel hurts my tanks potential more than what type of light I am running..

Do you need a new controller or just an update on the current controller?

Well i put my name on the list. Was going to have to spend 100 bucks to fix the soul. Might as well upgrade it. And I'll keep the sol parts so i can always downgrade if i want to.

Yes new remote will be needed... And it's well worth it.

Oh man. A wireless remote. That will make me all kinds of lazy ha ha. That remote setup looks sweet. Time to upgrade ha ha.

You still have to have the new controller plugged in for it to work.

Ya which kinda bites...

i plan on connecting it to my ai nano that will soon be over my fuge so it doesn't hog up a outlet...

I use a GHL Profilux to control my AI sols.....I wonder if I would have any issues doing this upgrade? I guess I should contact GHL or AI...

Contact ai by email... It's quick and Justin usually has a response within a day.

Tony is correct. The customer service is always quick and efficient.

Tony, did you ever find a happy spot with your settings? After the upgrade on the controller I tried a couple of things to tweak the settings. I am running Caribbean time. It was a lot shorter than I thought, but the colors have been getting better over the last couple of other tries. I think I was baking my coral before.

The trick is the ramp time...

I think I had mine at full peak too long...

I'm liking my settings right now.... It peaks at a 14-16k look...

Even wife asked what I did as it looks more light blue..

im at 10-5 with a 5 hour ramp time, that way it peaks for only 2 hours..

Max intensities are

blue:90%
royal blue:90%
deep blue:80%
red:25%
green:25%
white:40 or 50% (have to double check)

i will double check my settings when I get home..but that is about right.

My ramp time is similar to yours. I have my blues at 80%, whites at 60%, green at 30% and reds at 70%. No clue what look it is but I'm happy with it.

I had my whites cranked up to 65 when stuff started burning.... I doubt it was the intensity but the fact I lowered the fixtures after raising the setting... I lowered them to about 30, raised the fixtures and I am slowly working them back to 50-60 where I will leave them..

red and greens idk what to do with.... I had them at about 75 each during my episode so I will leave them low..

think I'm going to wait for director to come out before I mess with anymore settings.... Hopefully they simplify things a bit.

I hope. I'm also waiting on the custom pucks too. I want to see what all it offers.
Everything I have read has said to keep the greens low as that is a spectrum that most nuisance algae enjoys. I have my reds up a fair amount to possibly help with coloration.

I agree Lucky. It is hard to grab pics of it. Cool thing is when it is ramping up you really don't even notice it.
