So usually I do a 25 gallon water change on my 90 gallon system about once every 3 weeks to a month. Recently I have been thinking about doing a 5 gallon water change weekly instead of mixing up 25 gallons of water at once. What do you guys think about doing 5 gallon water changes weekly on a system this big? What are the benefits (if any) and what are the cons? Will changing out that amount of water each week make a difference on the parameters? With our new baby do in just 2 months I want to make things a little easier when it comes to water changes as well as not have to have a brute trash can in the kitchen taking up room.

my tank (250 gallon) is much happier when i do 5 gallon water changes twice a week rather than 40 gallons once a month. every tank is different tho, couldnt hurt to give it a shot on yours.

I think it's a good idea. More frequent, smaller water changes are better than one massive water change less frequently. It's all about stability. Talk to hobogato or firewater. I'm pretty sure they both do this.

You have a calcium reactor. 10 gallons a week should be good.

I try to do 5 gallons a week on a 100 gallon system. Even with my semi-automatic system, I still don't do them this much. Normally every other week, or when I remember and check my log.

Polarbear may not have the automatic system. Straight up water changes. Thats why I was thinking 10.

I need an auto system. It took me just now 15 minutes to pull 20 gallons and put 20 in. ugh

Yeah, I was just putting that out there because despite having that system, I still don't keep up. IDK how guys keep up with WCs 2x or more a week.

I do a 5 gallon change twice a week. I bump that up to 10 if I notice stuff ain't happy.
In today's world of smart phones and tablets I set a reminder on my phone and tablet. It reminded me today so when I went home for lunch I set up my bucket and will do the change tonight tonight. Takes me about 5 minutes.
