I use the Red Sea kit and I think it rocks. The titration thingy is great. Once you get a general idea of where each of your parameters are at, it goes a lot faster. You just squirt the needle close to where you should be and in a few additional drops, you get your results.

hey chris I believe bought the hanna checker for phosphates.... I wonder how its working out... I read mixed reviews online but mainly about the calcium...

Bro your single... how much precious time can checking you parameters really take? lol

I didn't even know about this test kit until Tuan came over and checked my stuff within three minutes or so. By far the best test kit I've ever been exposed to. Rapidly determining Calcium and Magnesium... in just moments.

The only time I've seen the parameters measured quicker... was when Tuan did it. He's been doing it for awhile, but just like he said, if you have a rough idea of where you're going to be you just squirt until you're almost there, then drop by drop. And since you're not counting drops, its pretty much squeeze, shake, squeez, shake, color changes and then do the math.

I also use the red sea kit. It's pretty quick, except for the mag test, I hate that one. It only takes a few minutes to do them all together, but the brunt of the time is spent on that dang mag test.

Tony I have the hanna phosphate checker too, it works well. Once you get that method down it's pretty quick as well. It's the hanna calcium checker they say is hit or miss, I think because you have to use RO water for it.

mg - salifert
ca/kh - nutrafin

The ca and kh are simple tritration test.
For mg I tried ELOS but it was a pain. The salifert was worth the money IMO.

Don't feel bad King. I liked and hated it. I always have issues matching colors. The Red Sea kits are good quality, but staring through a vial of colored water while looking at a color chart doesn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside. The nitrate and phosphate tests are like that.

At least the colors are fairly different, unlike an API test kit where you are trying to match hues of yellow and green to the closest one. I still need to figure out how to build a digital meter for all those, so I never have to test.

I start my mag test and let it set for the min while I do the calcium test. By the time I finish the calcium test, the mag is ready to titration. Takes 2 mins to test both :)

But it says to add 1 drop, shake for 15 seconds, repeat x5...

Okay so I looked a little closer and on the side of 1 of my needles it was ripped all the fluid kept coming out this is the reason why I hated it to begin with but now I got it little back on track and hopefully it works out but on another note what are most people keeping their readings at

I don't think it takes too long, I just absolutely hate doing that test because of that part. Especially when I forget what drop I am on.
