Does any body know where to get some nice algae tubes for culturing Phytoplankton, roti's, and brine?
i have been looking everywhere online and the only places i can find are in the UK for some reason. i know there has to be something a little closer. i know i can do it with soda bottles and have done with them before i just dont really like the look of all the soda bottles so im looking for something that looks more neat i guess ha

ah i couldnt find them for some reason but i was doing more searching today and found some really nice Plankton Reactors which seem to be a really cool idea not sure why they are not more common and once again the majority of the ones i could find for sale were in the UK. i had never even heard of them before and iv been in the hobby for almost 2 years now.
Supposedly they can keep a continuous culture going which is dosed into your tank all day everyday with little maintenance.
Has anybody ever used one or heard if these reactors can actually keep a culture going?

Was pretty bored today so i came up with this Phyto Reactor Design that i just might make for the fun of the build. It is about 1 foot tall and about 5" in diameter would hold roughly about 1 gallon.
It would be setup with my dosing pump to empty out about 1/4 of culture every couple days then automatically topped off when that float switch activates

Seems like that lamp would heat the water way high. No method to move the heat out....

I am curious, I raised phyto for several years and finally switched to phyto paste to raise my live cultures. I have raised BS, pods and rotifers using paste. I no longer work with live micro as I do not have the time. The algae tubes are great for raising phyto, however they are not necessary for raising zooplankton. You can hatch BS cysts in a Imhoff cone, then place them in a tub of SW, add paste, they will grow and you can harvest them as needed.
