I recently dove into the world of filter socks. I have been cleaning them with a high pressure hose attachment in the yard. I did a little research on here and good ol' google and have come across a ton of different ways to clean them. But 2 ways seem to be the main methods. Bleaching them in a washer and then soaking in prime to remove contaminates. But I’ve read that this only bleaches the algae and stuck on debris. Then the hydrogen peroxide soak overnight then toss them in the washer for a rinse with no detergent. Heard this is better cause it actually causes the algae to break down and helps dislodge stuck in debris. I just did the hydrogen peroxide soak and wash and they came out sparkling white. Almost new. Has anyone used these methods and had any negative effects? Mostly worried about my 40 gallon system with it's smaller water volume being effectied. I know hydrogen peroxide should break down to water and oxygen when in contact with water. But I know this isn't an instant effect. Anyone have a better way of cleaning these guys? Safe? Inexpensive? TIA

What do you use? Bleach? Or just rinse them?

I just rinse mine in the sink to get off as much nasty stuff as possible then I throw them in the wash on high and hot water with no bleach or detergent. its works fine with no problems

I put mine in gentle no spin, hot or warm water and some bleach and do a second rinse.

I just picked up some extras the other day Tony. But appreciated. Was my thought process as well. I try no hydrogen peroxide and see what happens. Maybe bleach from time to time to get a good clean. I'm just worried to use bleach. Do you guys treat for chlorine in the water after washing it?

I rinse off the nasty stuff in water, then put them with water only on a 15 minute rinse cycle then 5 minutes in the dryer with some towels.
