I was looking for the thread that someone else posted about this...

But I can't believe it took me 2 years to finally get a ato set up....

It's been nice not having to carry 5 gallon water jugs from my garage to my sump every morning.... 10 gallons has lasted a week so far and I have about 3-4 gallons left.

That is nice. You have it set up on the reefkeeper?

Yes got the float valve and switch from Louis months ago and barely put it to use.... RK operates it perfectly!

Man you've been missing out. Now wait until you automate your ato reservoir.

Automate it to do what?

After installing an ATO, it makes you wonder what took so long to do it huh? LOL

I waited for years and finally did it and would not have another tank without one.

When I got the free tank from AA grand opening.... It was just sitting here so figured why not....

Should have done this along time ago...

Automate it to do what?

Not really automate, but make it easier to maintain. I have a 25 gallon rodi container sitting above mine so I just open a valve to keep it full. Soooo easy.

Ya it would be nice to drill through the wall, my 32 gallon reservoir is on the other side in the garage.....

But filling up 7 gallons isn't much work..

Your right about show off lol. Heck most of the stuff you guys have makes me feel so out dated. But im glad I found maast. Im going to have to look into setting up an ato. Then I can look into what a reefkeeper does lmao.

My reefkeeper is simple but this is what it monitors for me and you can see some of my stuff connected to my PC4s(powerstrips)

I hope to get a sl2 module for it to monitor my salinity..

I need to get a new SID so I can label all my stuff... get frustrating sometime trying to figure out what does what!!

LOL.

What's an SID? Some kind of RKE thing?

350gt
Tue, 23rd Oct 2012, 09:09 AM
It's just a device that allows you to upgrade all of the modules for the reef keeper....

Big_Pun

lol the guy that builds a whole automated tank is confused by our simple controller jargon

rrasco

LOL. In IT, SID means security identifier but I was pretty sure that wasn't the case.

I'm curious, how does one 'upgrade' a module? What exactly is upgradeable? The software? Aren't the modules the extra pieces you can buy the sl2 (outlets right?), net module, etc.

350gt
Tue, 23rd Oct 2012, 10:56 AM
Yes the software.... They all have to be running the same in order to work properly... I don't know exactly what was upgraded.... I just did it to hook up my net module.. My head unit was a few updates behind..

Big_Pun

SID hoks up your computer to RKE itself so you can upgrade firmware and do other things via computer instead of head unit..........

rrasco
Tue, 23rd Oct 2012, 11:10 AM
That makes sense.

What kind of connectors do the modules/head unit use to interface? Just curious. I wonder what ICs they are running in there. Anyone have a broken one? I want to take it apart.

rke use a type of 6 pin(pass thru like cat5 but thin), then to computer it uses a usb so SID is a kinda bridge but im sure its more than just that

rrasco

Probably not. The USB is the programming interface. It's technically a serial port so it can be used to tx/rx anything you want really.

Looks like they use RJ11. I'm going to start using cat5 for most of my interfacing, assuming it doesn't need to carry much current. Right now I'm working on a super simple/cheap PWM controller for LEDs and an additional module to drive/dim LEDs directly from a DC power supply.
