I came downstairs today to find my overflow box completely submerged. The tank had filled all the way to the rim but hadnt spilled a drop. The J tube still has siphon but doent seem to be siphoning fast enough. Ive already tried moving it up and down to adjust flow and nothing. I even went as far as removing the pre-filter sponge in hopes that it was just clogged and restricting flow. It seemed to have started after i removed it to clean the bryopsis and other algae out. Any suggestions as to what I can do to solve this issue.

If your return pump is pushing more than your overflow is capable of, you will have that problem. But the removal of the algae should have made it flow easier, not labored.

My first thought is that you lost your siphon, since this didn't happen I'd consider putting in an additional j-tube to assist in moving water into your sump... and invest in an aqualift pump for POM.

Well i broke the siphon to clean the J tube as well. I have never had any issues prior to this which is what really confused me. Usually it seemed as though they were in perfect harmony.

Is it possible its just not a good enough siphon? Maybe less pull than i had before?

Then I'm flabbergasted. I have no idea why it wouldn't go back to the way it was running pre-cleaning. Is it installec correctly? The long end towards the back of the tank?

Not familiar with the physics behind a siphon, but if it has to do with gravity, then it shouldn't have changed if all else remained the same.

Yes. Im pretty sure it is, being that there was still some algae that i was unable to remove and I used that as reference to which end was in the tank.

Make sure that both ends of the tube are free from algae that can start growing in your overflow box

Hey Louie, thanks for chiming in bro. Yeah i cleaned it up really good. i think there might be something clogging the hose running from the overflow box. when i get home im gonna take it off and check it. if all else fails ill just get an additional J tube to make up the difference in flow.

Are you gonna be at the store today?

I'll probably be there. I might have an extra tube. Gonna check on that. Do you think a turbo snail could be in there?
