Got the tank all set up, waiting on my two power heads, and still need to order some lights Going LED, Ill spend this next week picking out my lights hopefully will have them installed about the time the cycle finishes.

There is still about 25 pounds of rock I need to put in the tank, and another 40 pounds of Hawian Black sand that should arrive at the LFS tomorrow.

FWIW Note the A-Neutronics PDU In the lower right of the screen. I can't say enough about this company. There customer service is outstanding and I got my item in 2 days. 10 outlet PDU with individual switches. Was 100 bucks.

Went with the Korla 1000 GPH power heads.

The stand will be finished when I have more days off. I haven't found a paneling I like yet.

Coming along...

I just bought a Technical Pro 9 switch PDU for about $30. I have a solid state relay board I'm going to use to switch them electronically. What is the current capacity on the one you got?

Are your powerheads evolution 1050s?

Mine is also a 15A, but I believe that is for the whole unit. Just pay attention to what you plug into it, especially if you run lights through it. I know my LEDs are pulling about 7-9A, I could only imagine what a MH pulls.

I'm waiting on a pair of 1050s to show up. I'm really happy with the magnum 8s and evo 1400s I have.

I planned on running everything through it.

Skimmer, mag 9.5 , 2 x koralia 1050's. and whatever LED's I decide to go with, and not important but a little floresent tube in the sump on nights for pH balance.

I hope it ca handle it all. If not I guess I will have to figure something else out.

I just didnt want to be unplugging power heads when it came to feeding time. Switched are so much Nicer.

I agree it's easier, but there are limitations to what you can run through it. You SHOULD be fine, but I'd check the current draw on all your devices just to make sure or you'll keep popping fuses in the PDU; assuming it has a fuse. I'm just saying, that's a detail you don't want to overlook.

How often should I be testing the water since I just got it all up and running yesterday?

When I came in this morning I tested ammonia and ph, figured no way nitrate or nitrite could show up in a day old tank of water.

anyway PH was 8.4 amonia was either zero or non detectible.

Yeah, its still too early for much of anything to happen. I'd wait a week then test to get an idea of where your at. It's still gonna take time though.

going to pick up 40 more pounds of sand on saturday, I may look into some bottled bacteria. Is there anything in particular anyone would recommend to give me the purple algae on the rocks? I dont mind green, but colorful is what saltwater is all about yes?

Don't worry about purple, that comes with time. And in time you will begin to hated the stuff as it grows on your glass as well as your rocks.

Finally got all the rock and sand in, even got 20 pounds in the refugium. Holding at 79 degrees, got a box full of rubble, I cant decide wether I should throw it in the refugium or save it for future fraggin in a year or so.

Day 7 and my skimmer still isn't doing ****. I hope its because there isn't anything in there that really needs to be cleaned.

so, 80 pounds of live sand 60 in the tank, 20 in refugium, 75 pounds dead marco rock, 6 pounds Live Pukani Rock.

ammonia is at .25 nitite is 0, nitrate I think I did the test wrong because it never changed color like it was supposed to.

KH is at 179 ; GH I think i did the test wrong. I put around 30 drops in the tube just seeing if it would ever turn green from the orange color and it didn't. my chart only goes to 12 drops lol. Salinity is at 1.027 or 35 PPM

thats all for now.

Of yea new pics. with all the rock and sand.

Did you put anything in to help kick off the cycle?...

Also, in the first chamber, I would put that rubble in there and place a piece of egg crate on top of it.... Then you have a place to lay that cheap filter floss to catch big items and left over food from getting into your sump....

Oh wait.... I just noticed it pours over, that wouldn't work..
