Yesterday I came home to find a big majority of my coral really stressed. I think my gf possibly sprayed lysol too close to the tank. I did a really big water change to try and get whatever it is in the water out. This morning everything looked a little better as far as no more film on every coral but every sps is starting to bleach out. Should I get all of my rare corals out and put it in another tank or just leave it?

Based on my experience, once sps show sign of bleaching the rest of the sps will follow. If you have a good backup tank with good parameters move them fast.
Just my thoughts.

have you tested alk, phosphates, nitrates, mag, what do your temps stay at(day and night)? with sps it could be anything, but usually if your parameters swing around it can cause them to stress

Run some carbon and start clipping/fragging your sps. Try and make the cuts about a 1/4 above the receding tissue and mount them to new plugs. You may still lose some pieces, but if you frag in numbers, you'll most likely be able to save most of your pieces. I've ben able to do this with my blue tort, green slimer, ora borealis, and ora purple plasma.

ill put some carbon in my sump. Its weird because every coral in my tank is doing fine. After I did the water change, everything looks better except for the sps. Zoas are all out and the clam is completely out. My chalices are what Im worried about the most. They still have color but I can see a small bit of skeleton exposed. I also have caps that are really washed out with a hint of color.

I lost an sps colony but all my other coral was fine. Dont let that confuse you. Thats what happens.

you may also want to pick up some poly filter to make sure that other chemicals that may be present are removed. i am sure you can find it at a local shop

Polyfilter!!! Can't beleive I missed that one Ace. Good call.

I would also recommend banking some of your sps in the future in other tanks. I've been able to recover a few nice pieces of mine thanks to storing frags with Chris.

Yeah, unfortunately that's the problem with SPS. I've gone through periods with low nitrates, stable ph and alk, high calcium levels, and still had bleaching events. I still think it's a chain reaction with one and then it spreads to the others.

yea poly filter or the oh sh*# pad is great. but I agree with Cory, sps is a roller coaster ride. it's great then all of suddenly bam, so far I've been good but I haven't added new sps in a long while. but yea I have a couple close friends like Cory I give stuff or trade with, incase that day arrives :/. just hang
in there .

I think everything has stabilized. Im going to elegant today so I can frag up my bigger colonies that are hanging in there. I would hate to loose the whole thing. So a couple of you members will be getting some new additions to your tank today.

Glad to hear your tank is stabilizing bro. After talking to you at Alamo i was hoping it would turn around. Always rough. Good luck.

Well the tank looks fine as far as corals not dying anymore. I had about 15 of my favorite things die. It could of always been worse though. I think the tank is stabilized because everything comes out as normal. Its just really weird because I only lost my sps. Even my clam pulled through by the next day.Im just going to give it some time and see what happens. So I will for sure be filling up my tank again soon. It looks really bare without sps in it. I thank everyone who gave me some input on what to do.
