would prefer a Lemonpeel or Flame. My question is, what exactly do they mess with for corals? Do they just pick at them or do they actually eat them? Will they eat Paly's and Zoa's? Lastly, I prefer the 2 I picked for color. Any recommendations on any better angels for a reef, or is it just a case of crossing your fingers?

depends on the angel... most will pick polyps off sps, eat clam mantels some even eat softies like Xenia or Kenyi trees. I have had good success with Pygmy Angels, multicolor angel. some success with potters, coral beauties. but you never know, lemon peels tear up Sps. just search the web, also Alton has a list of people's experience with them off RC

I didn't have any sps at the time I had my lemonpeel, but it did tear into my acans pretty good. Left everything else alone though, including palys, xenia, and my derasa.

I have mostly Zoa's and Paly's. Other than that, I only have a couple Caps and a couple Monti frags.

True! I also thought about a Bellus Angel.

I myself like angels too, there are lots of them with awesome color patterns. What about setting up a different/smaller or larger tank to appease your want for an angel? That's what I'm gonna do soon I think.

Genicanthus
Bellus
Lamarcks
Spotbreast
Watanabei

seems to be good for reefs (These were the ones on Liveaquaria I saw). I found a small recommendations for them and the sites that sell all say they are reef safe. Only problem is, Bellus Angels are the only ones that appeal to me. the others are just plain looking. To be honest, SPS are big on my list. So I guess it comes down to them eating polyps like Zoa's and Paly's. I wanted to get some clams, but I don't have to have them.

You can't go wrong with the Genicanthus angels. We have never had a moment of trouble from our bellus female.

Flame in for sale that eats pellets and doesn't eat coral, had it for over 2 years. ;) Doesn't bother clams either.

My first Flame I had for ten years did not mess with any corals including brains. I even had it with clams and no issues. The pair I have now are angels also.

Off subject a little but along time ago I sold a purple tang to a fish store who placed him into a reef tank of a famous basketball player and it ate $200 worth of coral before they got him out.

I have a flame, and he's never bothered anything in the cube. It's a 28gal jbj cube, has xenia, a clam, some trumpets/candy canes, zoas, ricordia....no sps though. He's fun to watch as he swims around...but never bothers the coral.

I have a flame angel sitting in QT right now. Hopefully he's not a jerk or the QT process would almost be for naught.
