Hey everyone, I decided to start my frag rack build today. It's going to be 30 inches long by 24 inches wide. My question is, would 4 legs be enough to support it? or should I add more? in the middle?

Some pics:

Nice, I like how you attached the legs to the egg crate. I would add two more legs in the center, with a rack that long it would bow down under weight pretty each. Do you plan to cut any grooves in the bottom of the legs do keep them from getting stuff trapped in them?

Thanks :) I just didn't like how the zip ties looked and I saw this idea in a fish store.

with just the 4 legs like you said it bowed down even with no frags on it, like this:

So I added one more leg in the middle and now it looks more even. If I add another leg should I put it just besides the one I already have?

Oh also I haven't thought about cutting grooves in the bottom of the legs. Would something like I did to place the egg crate work?

Did you mean this by putting two legs in the middle? Feels pretty stable now:

Dude,

That's one seriously big frag rack. Nice.

The grooves you have at the top are fine for the bottom, but I would make them wider and a little thicker. You don't want any build up in there.

Haha It's gonna go to my 48x48 frag tank so I don't want it to look tiny :) I'm finishing it right know I'll post more pics later on, thanks for the tip ill do that.

How does this look for the bottom? the one on the right.

They are 10inches long. Should I make some more hole on them for better waterloo or just the bottom ones are fine?

Looks better, bare bottom or with sand... if the latter, then you might have to come up a bit higher depending on how deep your bed is.

Nice bike, BTW.

Thanks :) I didn't even noticed it was on the picture haha. It's bare bottom. I'll get it in the tank later on today and post some more pics.

The rack is in the tank :) but I feel is a little high. what do you guys think? frags will sit around 5 inches under water, under a 400w radium MH hanging around 18'' above water

Try it out like that and see how it works for the corals. You can always make adjustments, better to lower it later than figure out it's not high enough and have to get new legs.

nice, I'd lower the legs, put a little more water between them and a blazing 400w MH.

Yeah I think I'm going to lower the legs, but later on because It's gonna be too much trouble to cut them again. Let's see how corals like this intense light. Thanks to everyone :)

Thanks for this thread, i have been trying to think of ways to build a frag rack pyramid that i need and using pvc never crossed my mind.

Have you had any problems with your rack floating?

hey man, how about a few more shots of your frag tank. That looks very nice. Is that the tank that was at ADs about a year ago?

Not so far, it feels pretty stable. I think the only way it could float is if you seal the pvc legs from the top and bottom.

I got it fro Giau a few months ago, I have some pics in photobucket. Let me find them :)
