The PSK has been removed from the system for about a month and the changes are amazing.

Are you talking about a skimmer pump, like a psk 2500? Are you going skimmerless?

So why would a skimmer that is not skimming have a negative impact on a tank? I would think that at worse, it would have no effect.

I'm sharing my experience. My thought is the PSK was removing to much dissolved organic matter (DOM) and somehow affecting the chemistry of my tank. I really cant say why or what. I monitor CA-625, KA-425, PHos-less than .02, nitrite/nitrate-undetectable, and PH 8.1-8.3. Like I mentioned in a previous post, I've been struggling over the past few years and it's a wonderful experience to see a healthy tank with new coral growth.
