I'm about to start redoing the Solana and can't decide what all I want to run for filtration. Cyano has always been an issue for me and I just can't stand that crap anymore. It needs to go. I've always concentrated more on nitrate reduction and hoped that phos would follow suit. Here's what I'm thinking about, what do you pro's recommend.

Tank Info:

67g
Medium bioload, only planning on about 6 fish.
Will be running an oversize skimmer
Looking for something that doesn't require a lot of maintenence (i.e. change out media constantly)
Small footprint
Absolutely no fuge
Zoas/Clams/LPS/SPS
15g w/c every 2 weeks

Here's what I'm looking at:

1. Biopellets fed directly to an oversize skimmer. I'm hoping the big skimmer will help alleviate some of cyano caused by the BP.

2. Biopellets and GFO. This would probably take care of the problem, I just know GFO and clams don't always get along and the fact it has to be swapped out monthly.

3. Carbon and GFO. Would probably help as well, but don't like the constant changing of the media.

Any recommendations?

That's kind of been my last choice. I've been happy with BP on my 40, the **** cyano just drives me nuts.

Corydude has sold me on the sulfur reactor. Works much better for my system than the BP did but every system is different. :)

JT, I've never ran them with an oversized skimmer. I've also never been able to run directly into the skimmer before. I'm curious if this will take care of the cyano.

Karin, do you know if the sulfur reactor helps with phosphates at all?

I don't think so but CoryDude would be the expert on that

With that size water change a DSB could do all your work and all you would need is some good flow in the tank .I would guess you could even go with no skimmer.
