Hello,
I have a mix of Black sand and white, (but more black than white) and I would like to add more white sand on the DT.

What do you guys recommend? Why type of sand? Is there a grade? Like super fine, fine, medium, etc?
Can I just add it on top? I guess not, but I would like to hear what you have to say.

Don't ever use fine or idk what the correct name for it is.... Put it in my nano cause my wife thought it looked more like a beach sand.... Worse mistake ever... It gets over everything!!!...

From what I read, a hose and a funnel and just pour the sand on top of your existing sand slowly. Don't know if it would cause a cycle though....... GL!

Slowly add the sand 1 cup at a time over a few days, this will prevent any mini cycle and your water won't cloud as bad. Good luck

What about, if I put live sand? Would it cycle too? Or why are you guys saying it will cycle?

Ohh I did more research and I will have a die off as some of the critters and bacteria won't be able to survive in the added layer... right?
This is an FOWLR tank, 1 puffer, 1 Picasso, 1 eel, 2 damsels.

Correct, this is why you slowly add the live sand over a few days. If you just replace with regular sand you should be ok if it has been washed thoroughly.

However, you still get a lot of cloudiness if added all at one time.
