Question: Do you think the Melanurus is replacing the Six Line as the go to wrasse that everyone has. I went with a 6 line when I first set up my tank and quickly realized he like the taste of clam on the full shell, so he was quickly kicked off the Island.. ( side note: if you want to catch a fish that is being naughty, Make all his dreams come true inside of a fish trap, in this case,,, Clams!!! placed a clam in there and had him caught in 5 minutes.. I have caught several other fish this way with a 100% success rate.) now back to the story. a few years ago there was no such thing as a melanurus in a LFS, most had never even heard of them (along with me). Now it seems they are a regular selection at the LFS and Many of us now have them in out tanks. The Melanurus, to me, does a better Job than the 6 line, Is More colorful, and with the exception of beating up my snails, is more peacefull than the moody little six line.

6 line definitely loses to the melanurus. I had never heard of them either. Then Milly posted a picture and after that I see them everywhere now. Weird how such a good fish can take so long to become in vogue. Or perhaps collections are occurring in different areas since recent bans...?

I have never understood the popularity of the sixline. Ours was no bueno in personality.

I got lucky with ours. It was a model citizen in the old tank.

Another side note that Justin and I have been talking about. When we say Melenarus, are we sure it is a Melenarus? I have been researching them extensively because I saw the popularity of them and I wanted something a little different that would do the same job. They are in the halichores family of wrasse (includes Christmas wrasse, coris, and others) which is fairly large. I purchased a Wardley wrasse Sunday and I am not too sure I actually have a Wardley or a juvenile form of Richmond or another wrasse. Richmond wrasse, Melenarus, Hoeven, Wardely, Vrolik, and some others all show pics referring back to Melenarus, they are just collected from different areas. In any case I believe that they are all good and have their benefits for the reef tank. When I had the old tank up and running I had a Christmas wrasse that was awesome at picking around the rock and coral.

The Juveniles can look quite different from the adults

I know yours is a melenarus. I guess what I was referring to is the whole class of halichores. Just got lost in my rambling.
