I guess the LED war is heating up! Looks like AI slashed the cost of their modules by 1/3 to stay at the forefront of the LED game. I would be so mad at AI if I had sunk that much cash into their modules only to have them drop the price that low!

keep in mind the colors under LED are always so blue and one dimensional though! ;)

Honestly doesn't bother me they reduced the price. A price drop was foreseeable. I've enjoyed my AI for the last year

Todd is even contemplating a switch. My jaw dropped when he showed interest. :)

LED are just like computers. In 1995 I bought my first computer $2800 out the door 100MB with a 15" monitor. How about $500 for an Iphone and today $39. Karin can you explain your comment? You are the reason why many of us want to switch, do we need to rethink?

Alton, I think she was being sarcastic, since people diss on the blue

yes. sorry about that. even my 5 year old tells me he doesn't think sarcasm is very funny...

Ask CoryDude.

I love my LEDs and have no plans to go to anything else. It's perfect for me. May not be perfect for everybody. But I also think it is what you make it and people may not realize the customization potential. ;)

Okay good because I love the blue too, that is why I use Radiums and 12K Reeflux. Isn't the ocean blue? At 50' no reds or yellow. The article in Coral magazine states that the reason why the first LEDs did not work was because they where missing UV, not Reds and Yellows. I fell much better now, I thought I was teaching two nights a week for nothing Karin.

only funny because those people that seem to like the blue a lot also tend to have those high light reef top SPS too ;) - not the 50' down kinda corals
But if you like blue you can have lots of it :)

I didn't feel as satisfying as the last time it came up so I think I got about as much out of this I was going to get. I won't mention it again ;)

I thought AI dropped the prices because of their new model coming out? Regardless, they are still a little out of my price range :(

Here is why I thinking about changing from 3 x 250w MH Radium Lamps
(Which are awesome)

5 year investment for 3 x 250w MH with Radium

Lamps per year $240 x 5 = $1200
New Lumen Max reflectors $145 x 3 = $435
New 250w Ballast = $120 x 3 = $360
Electrical Cost per year @ $.10 a KWH $301 x 5 = $1,505
TOTAL $3,500

5 year investment for 6 AI Blue Sols

Fixtures $2,560
Electrical Cost per year @ $.10 a KWH $137 x 5 = $ 685
TOTAL $3,245

It's a competitive realm these days. I'm fairly sure if they could try and take as much oomph out of Vortech's launch, they would. :)

Alton, you make it sound all too easy.

Erik the scary part is CPS is going up on our rates again next year. And with all the incentives to go solar and green CPS just adds a percentage to our bill to pay for it, so the more you use the more it reflects in your bill. And as far as "grow corals", I hope that is another sarcassum comment like Karins because I have a unnamed SPS that just sat there under 156w of T5HO and has doubled in size since adding the Marineland reef capable fixture at 55 watts, which we all agree is not the best fixture on the market. I also grow all my candy canes under this light.

I contacted Finsreef to see how many Maxspects I would need and they came back with 9 which would be like $4,500, I don't think I will using those.
