Do they work the same as other lights as far as watts and what not or is there a different number system to go by? I am trying to figure out what I will need for my tank set up for different size tanks for when I decide how big I want to go.

What I have seen is the cheaper lights like a 120w unit replaces a 175w MH or a 200 watt LED replaces 250 watt MH. On the expensive ones a 75w to 130w unit replaces one 250w MH. What is dangerious about LEDs is the fact they do not look as bright as a T5HO light but carries a big wallop when it comes to PAR and you can fry your SPS. I did this with a Marineland 55w Reef Capable LED fixture. It did not look that bright but one of my corals that which was high in the tank was cooked by this light which replaced a 156w T5HO fixture. I am sure many more will post on here

Watts per gallon wasn't a great measure to begin with and really goes out the window with LED's. It's really hard to compare LED's, becuase so much can change between different emmiters and even lenses make a huge difference. I run 72w of Cree LEDs over my 40g and nothing seems to be hurting for light.

PAR and more importantly PUR output levels will be the specs to look for in LED lamps/fixtures.

I tried it for grins and it does a strobe effect. But, there seems to be a good reduction in heat put out compared to the other bulb....brb...let me see if I can take a decent pic.
