Just wondering if any of you all have converted a 20 Long into a sump. My main concern is the size of the baffles in width. The dimensions on the tank state 30"Lx13"Wx12"H. I am sure that the internal dimensions are different. If you have built one, what sizes did you use for the baffles? Also, what did you use, acrylic or glass, where did you have the pieces cut?

Thanks,
George

Thanks, that's actually where I got idea, it just doesn't state what the dimensions of the baffles are.

BP,
Where do you plan to purchase your baffles from? I went to HD and they sell a 10"x12" sheet of glass for about $2-3. I should have purchased one and tested...

that's what I'll use, cutting glass is easy. I'm designing mine to fit a bigger skimmer and add a fuge. also a section to hold reactors and pumps x3. I haven't seen any magic numbers on baffle space, just make it to your needs.

HD also sells the glass cutting kit. I am going to do some research and try my hand at it. I just finished drilling my 29g, (two holes), so I guess it wouldn't hurt to try cutting glass now...

It's really simple to do. All you do is score the glass and snap it away from the score mark.

I did one a few weeks ago. It was for one of my freshwater tanks. The baffles were 11-3/4" to fit inside the tank. I think three are 3/16" and one is 1/4" thick. I used acrylic and silicone. Silicone helps cover any miscuts :D I had the acrylic from a bunch of scraps I got from Regal a couple years ago.

Here is a pic, I've since filled up the refugium (middle chamber) and added an additional 10g fuge to the side that circulates through the sump only. Videos at bottom.

I ordered 5 sheets of glass (11.75"x 9") from Samuel's Glass on San Pedro, $22.00. Not bad...
