What kind of paint to use

I'd like to paint my stand and canopy to a black color. What kind of paint is safe to use and do I need a sealer like polyurethane.? thanks!

If you're looking for a shiny/easy to clean black I prefer several coats of an Alkyd paint. If you want something a little more "textured" my favorite is Line-X!

You should see the stands in Louis's store. Really looks good. Black Line-X. Doesn't look like wood, very professional looking and unique.
