I find that even though I have a big tank with a big stand I really tend to struggle to do maintenance in my sump.
I bet it's like that for a lot of people.
So my dream stand would look like this:
fully removable side panels
most importantly:
the bottom of the stand would slide on ball bearing like the kind they have for the more expensive tool boxes.
Then when you have to do any kind of more involved maintenance you could just pop off the side and glide the whole sump (or actually half of it since not everybody has enough room on the side of their stand for a whole sump) out the bottom slide tray.
Voila! Easy lifting stuff in and out, cleaning things, etc.
I think that would be perfect. :)

Yea Karin that would be the ideal stand and sump area. I've actually seen one like that. And its funny you say like a tool box. A friend of mine with a freshwater setup who happens to be a mechanic built his that way after gettin the idea from his SnapOn tool box.

My next build will have to be the exact same way. I hate bending my body in weird ways just to clean out a sump or move some rubble/cheato !

Nice! Too late for me. I am not taking down teh 215g to put a different stand beneath but if there ever is another big tank in my future it will be coaster sump or nothing! lol

I hate having to maintain a certain BMI just to trim the cheato though!
And after what you are up to Tab can probably pop you in the head on a regular basis! :D

Karin you need to read through this thread from reefcentral.

this guy spared no expense. Light box that raises and lowers by remote. Stand with roll out sump and much much more. Im amazed at what hes created

Turn around RayAllen! Come back. How much fun would it be to have something snazzy like that (actually I could do without the light lift and the blue cabinet but I still like the slide out sump)

Ray - in the future, please show some restraint by NOT posting awesome build threads during work hours!

Only thing I couldn't believe is why he didn't go starfire when he went all out on everything else ???

Insane isnt it! If a tank could be sexy thats it. Thought you guy would like that. Hands down one of the best if not the best build ive ever seen and the tank isnt even large.

Karin I wont be gone forever, everyone who has known me a while knows I will be back. Give it a couple of years- worry free travel for weeks at time is going to be nice for a while. Give me time to save up for something ubber cool like that aquarium setup.

The only thing that would worry me is the bearings or any metal rusting from salt eventually.
