hi u all...
just finally got my MH fixture today...it is a 2x150watt 20k which i will be using on my 57gl illuminata....I am fairly new to the MH and was not in favour to use them untill now...At this moment i am using t5s with no ill effect but wanted to upgrade for sme better growth...my tank is mainly a LPS dominated tank with the variety of Acans , Le Chalice with sme softies...my tank is 36x18x21 and fixture will sit about 3 to 4 inches above the tank..
my question is this is there any thing i need to keep in mind while using MH ..will corals go through sme change in light shock...or just for use MH combined with t5s for about 2 hrs a day and slowly increase upto 8 hours over a period of 2 weeks OR my corals will do just fine and will adjust to the new bright light....

thanks lucky

You can raise it about 10-12 inches higher than the normal height and then slowly bring it down. You can place some eggcrate to block the light or move all the corals to the bottom and slowly move them back up.

I just replaced my t5's with a 400watt.... I kept the same time and for the last two weeks no ill effects although I noticed that my birdsnest went from a darker brown to a lighter green.

Of course my bulb is used, and I started with a spider reflector. Now I've got a lumenarc. I'm going to keep it as is and next week I will flip that switch on the ballast for extra juice. Another week and I will put in a new bulb.

You can also lay window screening on top. Use two or three and remove one each week.

allan, careful, the light green could be bleacking. Should turn more green, but not light.

Yeah I'm keeping an eye on it. Right now it's green.
