Did you use GIMP or something else?

i used gimp2. it really was easy. i think more appropriate subject would have shown the process off more. i want to try it with a tank shot and some landscape shots next.

Yeah Ace, I think you need something with a better color and light range to show it off more.
I wish I had known about this this past weekend. I was in Llano taking some time lapsed shots down by the river with a tripod. It would have been real easy just to take a few extra underexposed/overexposed shots.
Side note, nice acoustic guitar collection. I even think I see a 4 stringer back there.

There is a setting on my wifes camera that takes three pics for that purpose. We tried it a few times, will have to dig up the pics...

yeah, my camera has the same setting, but the default range was too small. i need to find the manual or just mess with it to change it. for this one i just manually changed the exposure and took three seperate shots.

I bet a custom bass made of TX wood would look good in HDR...

My D90 has a bracketing option that you can use for HDR, I have a few successful attempts after many hours of playing around with it, I'll have to see if I can dig them up. I need to play around with it again, just haven't had time with finishing up school, planning for a wedding, and breaking in a new (to us) house.

Here is my contribution to the HDR thread... I've been shooting HDR for a while now... Found this place about 10 minutes away from my house. I love the country settings out here... This was 3 seperate exposures. I added some texture within the post processing to give it the look I was looking for, so the grainy feel is there for personal preference. It is also number two of my 365 project. :D

It's one of the hardest things to do within photography, I think anyway... It's a picture a day. It is kind of a pain due to the fact that you have to have some good solid vision to make a nice project out of it. To be honest, it's a real pain in the butt trying to figure out what to shoot. It sounds a lot easier than it really is... But I'm glad that you guys are digging it... I will post more if I do anymore HDR. You can check out my flickr, facebook, ect... :D

I use Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5. They are great things to have if you are serious about photography or graphic design. To get the gritty look I just used a High Pass filter over it. I did it multiple times to get the effect that I was going for. I'm glad that people are digging it because I was starting to feel that perhaps I had went a little too far. Thanks for all the wonderful complements. I love to hear what people think of my work. :D

LOL, Thanks guys for all of the great comments. I am just trying to show off what HDR can look like. Everything I learned about photography has been all self taught. Most of what I learned is from the internet via Youtube or photography forums. I read read read and I practice practice practice. What is funny is I am my own worst critic. I like to hear what people think of my work so I can better myself. So stop being so **** nice and tell me the bad stuff you guys see...
Regreic25, I didn't get a PM from you so try again or email me at taknbyd@gmail.com.
If anyone is interested about learning what I know maybe we can do a little get together for like a photo walk or something... :D

Hey Dustin,
What program are you using to edit your pics??
TaknByD
Thu, 27th Jan 2011, 06:50 PM
Mainly Light Room 3 and Photoshop CS5... Sometimes I'll still go back and use PhotoMatix for my HDRs but CS5 has a much better layout and algorithm than CS4 so... Sometimes I will use textures as well to give it a different look or feel... I just really play with it until I like it. I usually never like it, so after playing with it for a while I decide to just be done with it. LoL... Here is what it looked like before and after...
BEFORE:

AFTER:

You will notice also that I took out the power lines. I didn't want them in my shot because I wanted to keep it old looking. Esecially that big ol' thing on the right I took out. Just took your eye away from the overall shot. At least that is my opinion... :D

Alright folks I can finally share a couple of HDR images I took in the last couple of weeks. There are many different ways to use HDR. One way is to make a realistic immage look very detailed and the other is meant to blur the line between photo and graphic. I provided one of each. Let me know what you think. These are my first ones and I still have LOTS of practice ahead of me.

Nice photos everyone.
I like HDR photos because of the extreme contrast. I more or less like the ones that look like paintings, out of real objects. I like showing them to people and telling them it's a real photo. They never believe me. I've been meaning to shoot some of these since I got my DSLR, but I have not yet. Landscape, old architecture, and vehicles are my favorite HDR subjects.
