Can iodide be used as a dip or do I need to get lugol's?

Lugol's is 5% iodine and 10% potassium iodide. Directions are specific in being very careful with dosage.

Iodide is less than 1% potassium iodide, no iodine.

So... even worth it?

Nothings 'wrong' with the coral I want to dip. It just took a little too much clown lovin and I want to help it recuperate.

Assuming Iodide = the supplement, I would say not worth it. There are other iodine based coral dips that would be effective. Is it always waxed up? losing color? If there's nothing wrong, I wouldn't dip it.

I was looking online for the lugol's ingredients... and apparently it was outdated information. Looked on an actual bottle yesterday, and iodine is not listed as an ingredient. Just ~11% potassium iodide.

Lugol's practically says "Danger, not for clutzes" on the label so I'm hesitant to use it.

There's also Tech D. Iodine, potassium iodide, and potassium bromide. No percentages listed.

The colt has lots of healthy flesh and polyp extension on the outer edge of it. But the center is rubbed, raw looking and slightly discolored from where the clown fish abused it. The stalks tilt, like it can no longer support its own weight.

Update

I did the dip. I removed the clowns from the tank months ago, and the colt wasn't really showing improvement. I've tried different locations in the tank and different flow, and started dosing iodine. Still nothing. It looked fine on the outer branches, but where the clown had rubbed it looked awful.

Here's the colt in its former glory, 3-10-10

Its standing up a bit more, so I'm happy with the improvement. It's got a long way to go before it's recovered, but I'm glad to see a step in the right direction.
