There are many more that we all mispronounce time and time again....I posted a thread awhile back but never continued it:

the funny thing is...I know how to say most of these because I spent a lot of time figuring out the correct ways but I still say what everyone else says because I got tired of people correcting me or looking at me funny when I would say it the right way. They seem to snob you quickly when you know something.

Kind of reminds me of Hawaiians and speaking pigeon...don't you dare say "three" in hawaii...it's "tree"!

I'm not into debating stuff that doesn't matter....so even though Chaetomorpha is keetamorfa I still say cheetos...lol.

That's how I am with the word "conch." I know how to say it... I just can't bring myself to say it that way out loud. Sounds... odd. And a little wrong.

I've alway said...

zoo zan thel e (long e at the end)

as with most scientific pronunciations, I'm probably saying it wrong.

Christopher:)
