I plan to build a frag tank setup and so far this is what I have come up with. Any input or ideas on design would be nice. As you can see in the pic the overflow box will not have finger cuts (no fish, etc. in the tank), two return lines and a mp10es.

looks good. So is it supposed to be a 30 breeder? the demensions are close but look like it would have to be custom made. what will be lighting this bad boy?
OOO and I think you just wanted another excuse to play with the designing program

I will have a acyrlic tank made. I will use 3 par30/38 led bulbs.

Any input on pump size? This will be around 20g and be for sps. I would like to avoid having to add a koralia/vortech, so I would like the return pump to handle all the flow.

I wangted a mag 12 on my 30 cube because I didn't want powerheads. If my return section in my sump was bigger it would of worked.I have a Rio 2500 rtn n a Rio 400 and a koralia nano for flowso about 1300 gallon per hour of flow

Also want to put the 12 on a sqwd but didn't want to drill n didn't want them over the back but ur gonna have 2xrtn drilled so think it would work great

I have a mag7, so I might use that for setup to get an idea of how much flow I will need. I also plan to run these flow accelerators http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=1684 I was thinking the mag7 would be too much pump for such a small tank.

Mag 7 should be about right, but after head loss, you may need the penductors. Say it ten times fast!
If you split through a scwd, you may be ok.

Which one is better, or the same thing. http://www.aquariumspecialty.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=137

i dont think its enough on mine.my sump only has a small amount of cheato. skimmer is bigger than it should be i think. its a red sea berlin with a mag 5 on it. i have it skimmer really dry so it pulls some nasty stuff. i got a sqwd if u want to try it out.

I'm still just trying to add all the parts up. If the cost of flow accelerators, scwd, larger return pump, etc. add's up too much i will just go with a mp10es and make it simple.

I think you might be happier with a MP10

Hook it up with the 7 and a scwd, you should be plenty fine because its 700 gph alternating, where as without the scwd, its 700 split. Add the penductors, and its up to 400% more flow. Also with the setup you have, it would switch side to side, and that would be lovely for the coral. How far away is the return?

what about overflow design? If I go vortech, I will only run one return bulkhead. Do I need a down turned 90 in the overflow box, to make it act like a durso or will a open bulkhead work? I know the open bulkhead will work, and I'm not worried about flow...just noise.

Return pump will be about 3.5-4'. With higher gph return pump, then I might have to deal with more noise from overflow/filter sock.

you should be fine with the penductors, but you could eliminate the pumps and just do gravity fed with an mp10?.?

Not a bad idea, but this tank will be on it's own stand...the same height of my main tank.
