Has your registration increased due to guest being unable to see image attachments? I ask because I read 100% of maast topics through RSS feed. I find it quite obtrusive that I must log in to see images.

I never really thought of it as being tedious. However, I save my screen name/ password so logging in doesn't require more than a couple key strokes.

As for memberships: I'm not sure if that would cause anymore of an increase in memberships than requiring you to be a member to post a question or answer.

I am not particularly knowledgeable about computer systems, so bare that in mind when reading this response...

I believe it has to do with how the person imbeds the image in their post. If posted one way they are visible even without signing in and if posted another way, they are not. This has been the case for ages and is actually what got me to create my account in 2007. I was lurking as a guest for a couple of months and reading all that I could about reef tanks, but wanted to see the pictures and many of those were not visible unless logged in.

Our most recent upgrade of our software system offers a quick and handy way to upload photos to a post. When I use this tool, the photos are not visible unless one is logged into the system. So, I suspect that this upgrade in our system has resulted in most people putting their photos in using this tool, rather than pasting the photobucket link, etc. and therefore it seems like you don't get to see photos anymore without logging in.

Sorry to cause you the extra step. But glad to see you're still reading MAAST!

Maast has had a abundance of new members Web and Charter within the last few months. It seems everyday a new person is signing on.

This complaint is a 1st ive seen about this subject, if you are a member why not sign in? As Justahobby mentioned Im automaitcally signed in everytime I venture over to the maast web address.

People read content in different ways. I prefer to read the rss feed in google reader. If attachments are not purposely restricted from guest, please consider altering the permissions

Attachments are that way on almost every site. Most sites require you to log in. I think it is done because people are trying to encourage growth in a roundabout way.

Helps to keep bandwidth use down and saves some pennies. As well, it helps to increase forum participation.

Take that as you will.
