I've had a couple Tangs in my tank through the past few years and I'm starting to notice an odd trend. Almost every Tang I've every had has picked a fish to pair with in my tank and then follows it around periodically. All my previous tangs have always grouped with my clownfish. I wonder if that where the idea for "Finding Nemo" came from. At this time I don't have my clownfish in my main tank (but in a seperate tank). However, my new Blue Hippo Tang has suddenly decided the Royal Gramma is his new best friend. I guess its not a species specific thing. I just find this really odd and interesting behavior and was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences.

after one of my anthias got injured it started hanging out with the mandarin pair instead of the other anthias. It's been going on for a couple of weeks now and I am wondering if it will ever rejoin the anthias harem or just keep tagging along with the mandarins?

Awww....That sounds kind of sad. Especially since Mandarins really just mind their own business.
I've seen some weird animal pairs out of water. ex. A feral cat use to follow my horse around everywhere and they would share food. That being said I guess fish with fish shouldn't be so weird.
As I've been watching it looks like the Tang has taken on a "you hide, I hide" mentality. He also did this at the store but that was with another Hippo Tang. Its double funny when the Royal Gramma just disappears without warning. The tang hangs there for a minute like "Hello? Uh....oh crap! Hide!"

Before Mama died, her and big boy (Bonnie and Clyde) would race end to end with me. I would go to one side and tap, they would swim over, and we would race to the other side. Sad day when she died. :(

I think this has actually turned into a very annoying thing for my Royal Gramma. First of all Tangs don't fit in little caves but he sure does try to shove in next to the Royal Gramma. They've started to kind of have little spats because the Royal Gramma just isn't kean on this 24/7 companion. So much for cute behavior.
