Greetings, I have been on this board for a little over a month trying to garner as much as I can on setting up a new sw tank. This saltwater thing has changed quite alot in 30 years. I figured out quickly my undergravel filter was passe. Way back in the dark ages I got a degree in Aquaculture but, to get a job in the industry I needed a Masters and did not persue it. So, after retiring from a completely different career and not moving every 3 years my significant other has agreed to let me start up a SW tank. I settled on a 90 gal. There is alot of great info here and hope to pick up even more as I get set up.

Glad to have you here and that you introduced yourself! How exciting to be setting up your 90g!

Any specifics you ready to share about your dreams for this tank? Reef tank? Livestock plans?

Thanks, I have a 90gal with a wet/dry sump, two EVO 1400 pumps, and aquaticlife T5 6x54w light. I have got it set up and put in about 65lbs of dry rock, 25 lbs of live rock. I am currently waiting for the tank to cycle using 3 large uncooked shrimp. After three weeks I am finally getting an ammonia increase (did not start until I put added the second and third shrimp). I am leaning toward having a FOWLR tank for about a year then transition into a reef tank. I was going to wait until the nitrites zeroed out than begin adding fish. and above all patience, as they say "Softly, softly, catchee monkey"

We usually use cooked shrimps to cycle our tanks here:hypnotyized:,but uncooked are fine too:bigsmile:......WELCOME TO MAAST....sounds like you have a good start already.
