Ok guys as you know I recently set up my Icecap 660 with 3 60" VHO bulbs. The first couple of days were peachy, it came on went off with the use of a timer the way it is suppost to.
The last 2 days the lights have not been coming on there own. Ive had to take my canopy off every day to tinker with it, Make sure bulbs are fully seated, make sure wires are fully seated etc. I will plug it in and it comes on. Today same thing it didnt come on, I took it off and replaced the fuse just in case that was it. I plug it in and it comes on, but 15min or so later it goes off on its own.
So in the last few days i have rewired it, changed the fuse double checked and double checks. The only thing it can be is he ballast itself. Brand new bulbs, brand new fuse, brand new endcaps and wire harness.
The ballast doesnt have anything loose inside that I can here so im at a loss
. I know 100% sure its wired correctly or it would have come on in the 1st place to begin with.
Any thoughts on whats going on, my fish and I are tired of the unpredictable light show.

I posted on the Icecap forum over at reefcentral to, lets see what they say.
I bought this from another hobbiest, so its not under waranty. Im sure they will say mail it in a we will look at it. Charge you $75 and the cost of shipping to and back. After all that Im at least $115 into it plus what I paid for it. Man im frustrated...

Ray, contact Icecap with the numbers on the ballast. They can tell you how old the ballast is and is it is under 3 yrs old, it is still under warranty.

Im going to give them a call tommorow, but according to the warranty agreement I must be the original purchaser and have the original reciept of purchase. I also must have sent the warranty card in with proof 30days or less of purchase date.

As suspected I will be charged. Oh well- It is what it is. Called them and they ran the serial number- not under warranty.
In this hobby we all buy a lot of used/ 2nd hand stuff. Every now and again things like this happen. So far id have to say ive been lucky over the years with the majority of my purchases.
I will be mailing it out today most likely. Good thing this isnt on a reef tank! Just put back my NO lights untill I get it back.

Well at least I know when I get it back it will be basically new straight from ICECAP.

Yeah, Ray, I've had to send mine back. Basically, they rebuilt it with new guts. Their customer service is really very good - among the top in the industry. As you said, sometimes used doesn't work out well.

Well I spoke to ICECAP today. Turns out the ballast is fine. He told me the fuse wasnt seated correctly. The only concern I have now is what else could be wrong. Before I even messed with the fuse I was having the issue. So once I get the ballast back it will be time to trouble shoot the wiring and endcaps.
Saved $75 woohoo

Ray, if I remember correctly there is a polarity test that you can do on the wiring harness to make sure all your wiring and endcaps are good. I think IceCap has it on there site somewhere. This helped me when I was having an issue.
