Well Im placing an order through GCR to get an Antennarius sp. Angler and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. ANY information will be much appreciated and listened to!! Im most likely going to be using my 10g standard but was interested in possibly modding out a Fluval Edge? He will be comming in as small as they can get one so im guessing about 1.5-2in. Please share all experiences good AND bad and how you kept them!

Thanks all!

I had one when I lived in Austin for about a year and a half. It was an awesome, fascinating fish. It was kept in a 55 gal with a large yellow tang. As I am sure you know, dont keep it with any fish smaller or near their size. And dont overfeed (which is how I believe mine died). They have a habit of continuing to eat and eat and eat. I saw it (over-eating) with many Sargassumfish when I was in Port A as well. I think a 20 gal would be better, but that is merely preference....only like the small tanks for fry and small juveniles. I say go for it. Mine made my top 5 fish list.

IIRC they tend to not use their esca in captivity (or maybe just not regularly)......just a heads up. Might be common sense, but they also prefer darker lit tanks vs. the typical brightly lit reef environment.

Mine used it's "fishing pole" if it knew their was prey available....in fact, the yellow tang got ahold of it one time for a very humerous interaction.....

I fed mine damsels and shrimp...and if their were damsels in the vincinity...the fishing pole was working like crazy

That's good to hear Lindsay. I bet it was a blast to watch. When I had an aggressive setup I came close to buying one at Polly's. It used the "fishing pole" without any prey in the tank. I read up on them (maybe 2-3 years ago lol) and the possibility of them not using their ecra stuck with me. Long story short, went back with the money and it was sold : (

I loved mine, but over fed him. Also they can die from not being able to expel oxygen if they are taken out of the water. Be careful when acclimating it so that it stays submerged.
