nameless porites (part of a x-mas tree rock)

:o can you really fit all of the ones on your list in a 58!?

BIGBIRD123
Wed, 24th Mar 2010, 03:31 PM
Yeah, it's pretty well packed. I'm trying to sell a few things to make more room. When this stuff starts filling in, there will be a problem...a well desired problem...lol

Karin, probably 2/3 of it is 2-3" in size but there are some that are in the 5-6" range.

I am just starting. And I have to say never thought I would love it this much. I just do not know the names of them that well so I don't know what I want or have.

You sure you have all those in your 58?? That's just nuts!

I've heard of two pounds of live rock per gallon but never two sps per gallon!

Only an Aggie would attempt something like this.

Kinda uncalled for comment Justin but it could be used in several other situations. I listed the others to see what people keep with their SPS...there is nothing boring about my tank. I just happen to have a recollection of what is in my tank. Participation is not required.

Brag Much?......WOW.....RUDE much......are you serious, the guy is trying to get a discussion going, and maybe work something up for future trading. The guy was not hurting anything by making a list.

I would think that a more professional response would have come from the MODERATING team.....guess not.....LOL.

Nice list Mr. Bird, with an I, thats lots of stuff for a 58.

Be on the look out for one of the coolest tri-colored acros you've ever seen. It's pink and yellow with green tips and green coralites.

I've got a lot of sticks, but the only one I know the name of is birdsnest (one green (tyree) and the other is pink (Recoil)) and Garf Bonsai or something. There are about 14 others of which I have no idea what they're called.

Allan, when the tank started getting full, I started looking for the named ones. This made it easier to remember them. Now I have to be picky about what goes in the tank. It has nothing to do with bragging rights...we give our kids names so we can remember them too...lol

Thats the nice thing about the scientific names -- they're all rooted in Latin. Latin, being the largely dead language that it is, is pretty much spoken by no one anymore. Feel confident in your mispronounciations, because everyone else is doing it too

Ok...this thread caught my interest on two levels.... Pronunciations in our Hobby and Coral Inventory....both are subjects that I have taken an interest in over the last year or so.

Here's two threads I created relating to those topics that I'm sure some of you will also find interesting.

Coral Inventory Template:

Steve, hope you don't mind me adding those links.

Also, I have documentation of every coral I own....when I bought it or aquired it, size, growth, name, value, price, who I got it from....etc...etc.. I also keep track of persished corals and trades. Anyways...I'm big on documentation I guess. A problem I recently aquired.

Brown....lots of brown . Oh and a little bit of green. Im kinda like StangChris. Only recently tried finding some nice colored Zoa's. And I have a question while were sorta on the subject. The frag swap. Can someone who is just getting into this buy frags at the frag swap or does he (me) need to have frags. I know , I know....its a FRAG SWAP...but just wondering.

I do know the zoa's i picked up from Bird when he was downsizing are doing well....though they havent really grown. How long does it usually take to see zoa's branch out over more rock. ( I know everyones tank is different) just seeing what most people get growth wise.

Nice list....do you know why the Valida is dying?

long story short... schooling fish moved in and I did not have enough flow to keep their waste from settling on the colony....fixed the problem and it continued downhill even after having the healthy pieces fragged out. I'd be curious to know of any members that got donations of this colony from the fragging meeting last month...if their pieces made it....?

Oh geeze, did someone tell you about that? It's the only time I've ever been knocked out after I moved out of my father's house. Ran full tilt into that branch. Even had to waive medical attention.

lol, well, they don't make me sign the release... but they keep a close eye on me.

Just remember, I'm the guy you call if your frisbee is stuck in the tree... and I'll be happy to do so should you call out a warning if I'm fixing to hit my head on a doorway.

My sticks include mostly montis:

Digitata- Red, Purple, Red Devil, Ora German Blue(which is starting to brown :( Although it is still growing?)
An unknown green encrusting monti I got when I first started(green with green polyps)
Superman Monti
Supernatural Monti
Monti Setosa- Green
Capricornis- Green, Peach/Orange, Idaho? Grape, Flower Pedal, Chili pepper
Another monti that is red with purple polyps recently aquired from Firewater

Other SPS-
Purple Bonsai
A couple other sticks that I got from gcreef in the frag pack I dont know the name of.
GCReef Tricolored

Im sure there is more but thats all I can think of right now. Along with all the other zoas/palys and anemones(I think 9 atm). And a couple LPS sprinkled in also.

Alot of mine are also smaller right now and I am not looking forward to moving the tank these next couple months.(Might be time for an upgrade)

And always looking for trades if my corals are big enough to frag.

Edit- new corals: True Undata
Purple Haze
Three different superman montis- one is almost white base, one is blue base with older growth being red(maybe rainbow), and one is a bright purple base. All with the regular red polyps.
Setosa-Bright orange
An unidentified acro
Sunset Monti
