Should do a closed loop w/ atleast a 4000:bigsmile:gph external pump.

I would think about something different, just to keep cost down alittle.

If you stay on top of water top offs, you can also lift the return pump up to gain alittle more flow.

lifting the return pump eosnt effect how much you have to top off, in my BC 29 that I modded its about 1 inch from output and still I had to do the same amount of top off, plus w/ those LEDs i doubt top off is too much of an issue. What i did also to increase flow instead of cutting the "tab" was to instead of using the stock filter pad was use fluvals filters for their canisters (they are the prefect width) and the pore size is good for flow and still grabs a lotta gunk. and then if you want to run carbon or chemipure just set it in a media bag behind said filter pad. as far as cutting the tab though i opted against it because it would distort the flow on the trickle filter for the 2nd chamber and i was wanting to leave that alone. also if you think about it your pump is pumping at x gph, that means that it has to be fed water at a rate of x gph. If your pump isnt currently blowin bubbles then it is getting the required feed of x gph. This means that cutting the tab doesnt really do anything...or atleast this makes sense to me in my own head... Changing the filter pads then was only so that the existing filter pad didnt get clogged up so quickly causing the pump to spew out bubbles, b/c it got clogged and reduced flow. In fact i kept the stock filter pad and used the fluval as just a prefilter and it seemed to get a decent job for me without having to cut the tab. dont know if this helps or not.

yea do that i used to run a black sponge on the second chamber, and a fine filter floss a couple times a week especially after water changes to polish . the black sponge was the only sythetic filter i ran, had the second chamber full of rock rubble, did 2 gallon water change every week or two, and 5 gallons once a month on my 14, bigger on my 29's. i used to have 5 biocubes running at one point.

No i dont know of any detailed instructions but ill try.
First measure the length of the output tubing. Then decide how much you want to raise the pump, then cut that much off the tubing. If you want to raise it 5 inches then cut 5 inches off the output tube. Then cut about a blades width shy of 5 inches, or whatever amount you decided to raise the pump. Then measure the footprint of the pump and cut a piece of plexi (any thickness). Then use somethin like weldon 16 to attach the plexi to the PVC. Then put the stand in the third chamber and then attach the pump to the tubing. If its too tight a fit use a lighter to make it easier to fit around the output on the pump, then put the pump on the stand and you should be good to go
